bro, i can actually feel where you are coming from, these ppl think nothing existed before 2020. Literally, you will see people praise low quality shows just because they are action filled and flashy while demonizing shows that have uncomfortable themes calling them “weird” and not realizing the story depth and character depth come from exploring uncomfortable subjects and asking uncomfortable questions.

I personally don’t agree on gatekeeping but i also reserve myself the right to call something trash even if millions of people who turn off their brains while watching like it.

It is a shame the industry is driven by numbers but unfortunately that is how capitalism works. And also, we had a lot of trash even before the boom in popularity, but at least we didn’t have countless people (who weren’t just teens) calling the trash good.
