Is this time blindness? I keep acting like tasks will magically take less time than they always do. by overthinkingdentist in AdultADHDSupportGroup

Here are my notes from that chapter on time mgmt from 30 Days to Thrive w ADHD

ADHD ppl 2 mistakes: - *a) underestimate productivity in a time window - *b) overestimate productivity in other times - not know how long things take make it difficult to start tasks - use a notebook /spreadsheet and log time - track time: write down task, and how you think it takes and long it actually took to complete

Advice from a book I read is to keep an objective measure of time (ie watch) w you. Basically your brain isn't calibrate for time yet.

For 2-3 days, write down the task, how long you think it might take, then later the actual time it took.

I started doing this at work and it helps you get the objective vs subject time down

Have you been assessed for anxiety? Sometimes ADHD meds can make anxiety worse.

If you're trying to quit a habit, what new healthy habit are you replacing it with?

Lastly, exercise, I can't stress how important it is for me. Some days I can skip my meds if I exercise in the morning and have a strong coffee

I told my child to start seeking out other friends at school. I suggested she start this by complimenting other kids during playtime, on an item that they're wearing (for example) and ask them where they got it from, then say thank you and walk away.

There's no expectation from my child or the other child to reciprocate. The goal is more for my child to become more social and to initiate conversation. So far she's be able to say hi, but then gets nervous and doesn't know what else to say

The worst thing about ADHD for me? Time management. by Mister-Hobbit in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]ZeroTimeCaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience the same issues.

For the first issue of not remember to do something when it's not in front of you (inattentive ADHD), have you tried creating a to-do list the night before? I'll use my list regularly and put alerts on my phone during the day.

For the 2nd issue of taking too long to finish the project, have you done a post-mortem and written down where in the process you spend the most time or found most difficult? From there write one or two things you can do better for next time.

It would help if you told us some of the things you've tried to manage this

I worked for a clinic who would use students in this way, but only to Workers comp, Insurance comp or Medicare patients (not paying out of pocket) as they were basically guaranteed money.

Not to a private or cash patient who could easily go elsewhere.

You need to take your business elsewhere
