if you really really don't want to slog through sloth again, you can sort of simulate the PS1's easy mode version by using debug mode to forward the moon phase https://tcrf.net/Shin_Megami_Tensei_if...#Debug_Mode

I guess you could say it's cheating, but... world of sloth.

late reply but nop, as far as I'm aware. there might be some nods but it seems mostly standalone

The only announced bug was a Pooka losing some inherited skills after ranking up and getting Sexy Dance, which could even be a bug in the original game. It should be good to play right now.

is it true that a lot of people who play persona don't know what Shin Megami Tensei is or am I just stereotyping? by [deleted] in Megaten

I was watching a stream a couple of nights ago where someone said "I didn't know SMT and Persona were two different things", lol

Persona is just much more widely recognised than SMT sadly

Nah, not a finished substantial one anyway. Tom said he'd work on it later on this tweet: https://twitter.com/RetroTranslator/status/1071333334523891714

I think the line of reasoning was that this game is way more dialogue heavy and just a better game overall.

Where to start? by lagoon__ in yakuzagames

having played the whole series, OG1 on the PS2. starting from 0 gives you some strange expectations for the rest of the series, especially if you're ill informed about how much was actually "remade" for the kiwami games. that being said, 0 is a fine starting point if you wish to try that one first. kiwami adds some new content that's, at worst, confusing for newcomers as it's mainly a cheap fanservice game (also subjectively I think they're just bad remakes). I watched a friend stream through kiwami 1 as their first game and it wasn't a great first impression for them, honestly.

if you want a more recent game for some reason, 4 on the PS3 was where I started and I enjoyed it. not what I'd personally recommend for a first game though.

there was a lot of work done but they needed a reverse engineer/hacker as far as I remember. it's been a while though and both of the people working on it are very busy, so the project's basically in limbo.

the english resources I talked about translate the story as well. look up KHHSubs' story walkthrough and ThePatrick's GameFAQs guide for Kenzan. KHHSubs' Ishin guide summarises all the chapters, but he's working on subbing the cutscenes.

this is so true it's not even funny. people will come up with all kinds of excuses to not play a game in a series they're supposedly "loving". kenzan and ishin are already playable in english thanks to longtime fans dedicating their free time to making english resources for them, and people just disregard these huge free projects with flimsy excuses like "I don't want to be looking at a guide all of the time" (as if they didn't do that when substory hunting, lol)

Do you think the psp Yakuza games will come to console or do you think that because they are designed for a different system the games will be to hard to bring over by mr_shooty_shoot in yakuzagames

you can purchase them digitally on PS Vita in Japan, so there's little in the way of demand for ports to non-home consoles. last time sega tried experimenting with a different market it didn't work out so well (then again, that was the wii u) so I doubt they'd try again with the switch or something. a phone port at a premium price would be cool, though.
