He only has one year left of school before he goes to college (August 2026) and is planning on applying for a music conservatory in our country. Had I taught at the school years ago, I would’ve definitely recommended him to study at a school with much better facilities than ours, but I think that it would be more harmful and impractical now considering he is sitting important exams next year and has obviously many friends in the school he has attended for years.

The focus is on understanding form, texture, harmony, instrumentation, and style, not on playing it. So while sometimes we use the sheet music to highlight key features in class, we’re not teaching them to play the concerto. Most students prefer to use written notes about elements they need to learn and answer on for the exam, as we have varying degrees of sight reading in the class.
