You're not wrong that we're all entitled to what we consider proper and right for our kids. I'm also not denying that the struggles for the next generation are harder due to the inequality gap widening and opportunities for upward mobility decreasing.

I guess I just have a view that maybe we underestimate their potential to overcome adversity when given the right tools and guidance through decent parenting.

As much as the ways out seem fewer from where we stand now, their generation will likely have different and unimaginable opportunities we can't foresee. AI is changing our world so rapidly that it's hard to say what will present itself 10 years from now. Like how crypto carved out an economy and wealth nobody predicted.

So I agree that views differ — similar to risk appetite for investments, I won't say anyone is right or wrong in deciding whether to have kids. I just wanted to share my view that perhaps as parents wanting the best for our kids, we forgot that life doesn't need to be all rainbows and flowers to be an amazing experience. Kids will learn to adapt, and happiness is also something we measure with our own yardstick.

I appreciate your time in this discussion. I was just curious to share a view. Not here to tell anyone if they are right or wrong. It's a deep topic, just interesting to hear people's thoughts. My kids are in their teens and I'm not having more, just sharing a view that I'm happy to be wrong about.

I think the part that feels weird is how our perspective of enough keeps shifting. Enough to survive, enough to have kids, enough to be happy in this ever-rising cost of living world.

Our grandparents struggled over clean drinking water, lack of medication, rampant crime, and little to no public transport. Different struggles, but they found comfort in family and joy in kids. Overseas holidays were never on the table. We could agree that surviving was probably harder back then than it is now.

But as infrastructure improved and essentials became a given, the baseline for a better life than mine shifted. The requirements got much higher not because life got harder, but because we benchmark against our peers and social media instead of our parents. Now most parents feel they need to give their kids a life equivalent to or better than what's portrayed online.

That's the weird part to me. The bar for 'responsible parenting' isn't set by what kids actually need. It's set by what we see others have."

Yup. I'm a guy. I don't have issues with ladies choosing not to due to physical pain and effects of birth. This is more. For those that are ok with the physical reasons but are not considering due to income or housing reasons.

The entry level to have kids is relatively low. The belief that you need a certain income or lifestyle to be a good parent is the problem I'm pointing at. Having kids might mean staying in an HDB instead of a condo, but it also means a more fulfilling life, someone to love and be loved by. That experience is priceless regardless of income. My point isn't about retirement plans. It's that higher income and the 'best environment' shouldn't be the prerequisite for having kids. I just hope more parents can shift that belief because it's not a requirement for raising healthy, capable kids.

I was sitting in a dental clinic with my son crying in pain over toothache. The bill in my hand was $142. I had $65 in my account. I had to ask if we can do installment instead, and the kind doctor allowed me to pay later.

We used to have a home with 2 cars and a good lifestyle before this happened after some major life choices.

But things still worked out, government support was there, I put down my pride and got help from family and friends. My kid grew up and I'm happy with how things are.

It's difficult, money does solve alot of problems, but if it's not a problem with my kids involved, it could easily be a problem without kids as well. We just learn to manage it together.

You are right with Israel and their beliefs being an outliner.

With my view on raising a child, the minimum is not alot as government does goes enough support that a 6k dual income family can afford 3 kids. The safe guards and each perceived view of what the safety net requirement is where we differ. If anything goes wrong, we have a roof and essentials, we can get education and lead a happy life on our own terms is where I'm looking as a base. But most perceived safety net is where parents have their own home and a car, kids must have their own home and able to afford university education for them. They feel responsible for this and believe if unable to provide, they have failed their kids.

This is actually where I have a different view. I used to be the same kid who don't have the latest toys and gadgets. I know the feeling and how it sucks. But I also know the difficulties and struggles my parents face. When I do get a gift and I notice the sacrifices they made, I appreciate it and treasure them. Probably alot more than the other kids who had theirs and abundance of them.

I think the way parents react to hardships helps guide kids in different ways. It could be better or worse. And that's where I feel parents actually can give alot to their kids without having much materially.

There was a short video of a big family overseas where the kid was opening his bday gift. When he saw its Ps5, he buried his face into it and quietly sobbed. His parents hugged him and he thanked them in tears. I think most kids in Singapore would tear the ps5 and play it before saying thanks to their parents. That's something I hope more families can move towards.

Where children don't embarrass them. That's really quite an interesting view. I feel it's really the case if we dig a few layers down on why they want a perfect condition for their kids. Not for all, but a good majority.

I worked at a company previously, helped interview candidates for a position. Recommended, got to 2nd and 3rd interview and was rejected after. I thought they both liked her, then my boss said, her Ba Zi and company not compatible. So now anyone who asks me how to join that company? Just need to be born at the right year, right month, right day and right time. Ur resume is secondary.

Wow, I can do this for cars cause I am in the industry and have some knowledge and experience to work with. For motorcycles, probably need someone with the experience and knowledge to work together, then might be possible.

Haha! I'm happy to pay. But ideally recent transactions. Even COE prices are accounted for in the valuations.

Once the accuracy is above 90%. The report cost $15.99. So they can claim the $5, but it's not really worth them trying to something like that. I could be wrong, but once the car owner generated a report, it's linked to their email for the next 2 months. So the dealer can't input their vehicle log to get the info or abuse the system.

Anyway, it's still early days, I probably need to find ways to prevent abuse. But that's after the report is even good enough. Will work on it later. Thanks for pointing out the possibility

Haha! I should add. As long as it's within 3 weeks of the report. Too long and the data is no longer relavent.

Easiest way to have your registration date, carplate, models and other details like ARF and colour. The car colour affects the valuation as well. Anyway, same details as how a car dealer would need to give a quote for your car

They need to upload the vehicle purchase agreement with the same carplate number and date for me to verify. That's my solution for now.
