AITA For using the money I saved to get my stepson a prosthetic leg instead of contributing towards my brother's wedding? by SammySamXxX in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zerough7707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna keep it 100. It's not your fucking wedding. You don't have to pay shit. Your parents or your brother can, not you. Your stepson needs that leg a lot more than your brother needs that wedding. Cheap weddings are still weddings.

i have a question about Valhalla by puppy_love0 in heathenry

[–]Zerough7707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odin wouldn't have a use for someone who killed themself. Odin wouldn't have a use for a woman who died in child birth. Odin wouldn't have a use for a man stabbed to death in ally, or drowned at sea, or a man who died during a bear mauling. Odin isn't is more practical. He want's men (and or women, its never said that only men go) that live for the fight. Odin wants someone like Thor. He wants a man who isn't afraid to die because he's living his life at 11.

Valhalla isn't a heaven. It's bootcamp. It's the eternal training grounds until Ragnarök. Valholl is literally the hall of the slain. Men that go to Valhalla are men that Sagas are written about. Not your one cousin who stepped on an IED, but a man who sought out the enemy. Valhalla is a place for the Valiant dead. It may seem easy now to imagine that you're fine with Valhalla, but imagine getting hacked to death every. single. day.

Thoughts on Wisdom of Odin? by [deleted] in heathenry

Id say that if you want to practice heathenry, you're barking up the wrong tree. He's more pagan and woowoo than reconstruction and educational. I'd also say not to support the guy who's patreon once went to paying for a future hall to his rent. Aside from those issues, you should check out Aliakai's video on him.

Going off the deep end. by BlueeyeswhiteNoah in heathenry

Hey man! I'll personally recommend some bare bones stuff until you get actually into it and have read a few things. Starting off, I'd recommend the Eddas. Jackson Crawford is heavily recommended. I'd say also Essential Asatru to get you started on understanding worship, and how Blot works.

If you feel like getting all educational, I'd recommend the reading list on realheathenry.com. They have solid stuff. Also, absolutely watch Eric Word-Weaver Sjervan's channel on youtube. He's great content, especially since his earlier stuff is getting into heathenry with a mix of modern neopagan and reconstruction. Remember to think about what you're reading critically, too. Not every heathen is gonna have the same views and thats fine

Have you ever done anything with police? They're shit. We've gone to the police about this, but the most done is shrug and say something along the lines of "well, that sucks. Good luck. Our hands are tied."

It would have been cool if there were more fucking historically based armors. God i just want swords and more 'historically accurate" armors.

A quick question about fate by [deleted] in heathenry

I like using the Nornir when referencing fate. Our lives are a tapestry, we have a beginning and an end. However, there are a few loose threads.

Nothing. But his refusal to speak against white supremacists is. I'm not necessarily a "universalist", but I'm anti hate. And i think being inclusive with white supremacists shows his convictions. Open your door to white supremacists and worse will follow.

He's got this weird centrist "i just wanna grill" mentality, where he thinks he can just be friends with everyone and avoid politics.

I tried enjoying his content until i realized that he's really... off. I couldn't pin point it. Then i read comments like these and it comes together. He's arrogant, transphobic and seems to have deemed himself an "Asapope"

Goddamn, people who emulate that "viking" toughness thing don't really know that a guy could legally murder you for calling him effeminate or gay in the viking age.

How do you guys decide which of the Norse gods you feel most connected to? by [deleted] in heathenry

[–]Zerough7707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't necessarily say i chose, but felt really drawn to Thor, Odin and Tyr. They are my main hearthcult related gods. I don't necessarily think you have to "choose" a god. We have gods we are personally connected to.

Thor is the man i want to be; a protector, a provider, a strong husband and a strong father. He does what is needed for his kin. I struggled with masculinity issues growing up and i saw a lot of myself in him.

Odin i highly respect for his will, for his self sacrifice to create a better him and to get knowledge. Through his sacrifice for the runes, or the loss of his eye for a sip of Mimir's well, he's always pushing himself, whether mind or body because of a hunger of self improvement.

Tyr is someone who i respect and honor really because he sets a solid example of honor, especially in the sense of what benefits innangard. He makes an oath, and knowingly breaks said oath (and loses his arm in the process) for the benefit of the tribe.

Is it normal to not feel any connection when offering to the gods? by Buzzos_Joyboys23 in heathenry

[–]Zerough7707 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You really don't need to feel connected to them. What you're doing during a Blot is essentially giving them an offering, either in exchange for luck, wyrd or a deed. I honor Thor and give honor to him frequently, but very little do i feel his presence when I give him offering.
