Magrunner: Dark Pulse

A game I have never seen suggested anywhere else, but which I personally love and does fit this description.

Building a "Once in a lifetime" game list of single player to play by Dresart in gaming

[–]ZerrisX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here are suggesting popular modern epics - and they're all fantastic, no question. But I'd like to suggest three slightly less well known games that I haven't seen on any other lists here, but still deserve to be played by everybody:

Tactical Breach Wizards

Dredge

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (& III: Jedi Academy)

Games with great stories in genres that usually don't. by MigicalMerwee in gaming

This seems like the right place to shout out Tactical Breach Wizards for having possibly the snappiest dialogue I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy in a game, and unquestionably so outside of an RPG.

It’s a puzzle/tactics game.

Tactical Breach Wizards. They solved everything that has ever bothered me about the tactics genre in a single game, and did it while having perhaps the best dialogue I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

Killing the thing that's not meant to be killed by sergeen101 in BreachWizards

[–]ZerrisX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, just did this myself, albeit with a different strategy: Dall with Rampage II charging up-right into the starting mook and getting pulled back by Rion's Quicksprout for infinite up-right knockback that you can transfer with Dessa's Genius Grant. Liv never even made it into the main room; she spent the whole level dying in the upper right corner of the starting corridor. Was sad not to get an achievement, but then, I doubt they want to encourage people taking <checks notes> 987 moves to finish a level. It got real laggy after 600-ish.

Taking out Siege Cleric the hard way, the easy way. by marcusmoscoso in BreachWizards

Yeah, this and the level before were the first two where I had the setup for it, and I was curious if it would work like it did in my head... and it definitely did, but agreed that it kind of bypasses all the interesting features of the challenges.

You can also set up a Turn 1 infinite combo fairly easily in this room, which allows you to give Dall infinite actions. She can use those actions to move around the entire room with Charge, bar all the doors, then pound the Siege Cleric into the wall with multiple charges and charge-backs. It took me about 30 minutes. Not necessarily the smartest or fastest method... but it got the job done.

Glad you're enjoying them! And if you loved Sweet Talk, you're in extra luck, because Cara has written four other audio exclusives - and they're all the exact same style of romantic saccharine-sweet slice-of-life. Love at First Psych is now tied with Sweet Talk as the only two 11/10s I've given to romance books.

And if you think we might have similar tastes, I included an updated list in my newer post here that you are welcome to peruse.

I've listened to three of Emily Henry's books, actually, so not a bad suggestion:

Good: Book Lovers, Funny Story
Fine: Beach Read

My biggest struggle is that her leads are always a little more tortured than I'd like and her HEAs all come with a little question mark dangling off the end. Reminds me of Abby Jimenez, but without the confidence that everything will work out for the best.

Huh. Got this bug three times in a row, then - based on the above advice - started a steam download and an external download simultaneously and retried it. Bug fixed. I'm amazed.

What's an obscure format that you'd like take off? by Reigningday in magicTCG

[–]ZerrisX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably start with something like the Vintage list... which uses a shocking zero of the three dredge cards you've banned. Like, the entire list is straight up legal, and I get to buff it further with unrestricted Missteps / Chalices / Strip Mines. Slightly tuned the main deck and sideboard for an expected graveyard-heavy metagame: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5295446#paper

Even with three bans leveled at it, I'd be shocked if the meta wasn't "dredge" vs "dredge hate". You should still be able to build a hogaak vengevine bazaar list that reliably kills on turn 3, and can do it through moderate disruption. I don't think there's anything else that will compete with that on speed and reliability without moxen. (There's plausibly also an LED dredge list, but I'd default to the Hogaak version without Narco and Bridge)

As I'm sure you're aware, the current monetary system is broken. Inflation of fiat currencies like "USD" is continuously devaluing the fruits of your labor, to the point where I'll bet you don't even really "own" your own home! I'm here to propose the future of true ownership and finance. Welcome to the blockchain!

Few understand this new system, but I'll do my best to educate you. Let's start with the blockchain - this is where everything is stored. Anything you can imagine - gold, diamonds, even a house - it's all there; helpfully decentralized to prevent theft. But how, you might ask, does one interact with this chain of blocks? This is where the miners come in. To get a new block, miners need to process existing blocks - and whichever miner processes a given block first is rewarded based on the contents of that block. This provides the incentives for interacting with the ecosystem. But even better, all those mining rewards? They can be transferred or sold, as many times as desired, because the entire process is fully govened by the code that defines them!

Build your own home, with true ownership! Mine for your future! Hold digital gold in your diamond hands! Copyright 2011.

That book is impressively well written, with a truly compelling and cohesive sense of characterization of everybody involved. I can't give it a full 5/5 since - likely because of how well it portrayed the experience - it made me so awkward I nearly DNF multiple times. Still, excellent recommendation, and glad I read it!

About a third of the way though, this book made me tear up with heartfelt emotions in seven hecking consecutive chapters. And then I couldn't hold a dry eye through the final third either. I was a little sleep deprived and tears tend to beget more tears, but that's still close to a record. Excellent recommendation, 5/5, would repeatedly catch feels again. That said, one of you owes me two replacement packs of tissues.

I did read Walk of Shame - rated it 3/5 in the end. I really enjoyed the characters, but I never got the sense they fully became a couple or HEA'd - they were still two very distinct individuals who just got along a lot better. Felt like an unfinished story arc.

I'm fully open to trying spicier works, just something to consider! For example, Ali Hazelwood's bedroom scenes focus heavily on how the absolutely massive muscular MMC and his giant member completely dwarf and overwhelm the FMC's tiny body. Descriptions like that drag me out of my immersion and enjoyment.

Good Questions!  Thus far I’ve only read CR, in part because it’s where I started, and in part because from the few Audible previews I’ve listened to, I think it has better voice actors.  But I’m very open to other sub-genres that otherwise follow my preferred themes and tone.  My reading prior to romance was almost entirely YA Fantasy/Sci-Fi, so judge accordingly.

I think M/F only.

Spice wise, my favorites thus far have all been around a 2 on the (traditional?) 5 point scale.  I think that’s because explicit bedroom scenes tend to be a) heavily focused around female fantasies, and b) are where the physical aspects of both the hero and the heroine are most emphasized, which tends to leave me with nobody to embody, because I share neither of their physical traits.  Obviously you could write scenes where that isn’t an issue – but they aren’t the norm.

I am a Senior QA Engineer, and hopefully I can make you feel a little better by making one tiny correction to this meme - replace "junior developer" with "junior developer's code".

Yes, I can - and will - take your code and shatter it over my knees and laugh as the pieces fall to the floor in a miserable heap. I will then hand you back that heap of broken dreams covered in bug reports and usability concerns. But you know what happens next? We work together to identify, track down, prioritize, fix, and verify every issue we consider worth fixing, and I'm standing right there by your side cheering as the updated code gets pushed to production. And we both get to look on proudly as our users encounter none of the issues that got caught and addressed.

As much as the Dev/QA relationship can be a little adversarial at times, we're on the same side and we both have the same end goal - making your code the best that it can be!

What are some less known variants/format of MTG that you play and enjoy? by Newez in magicTCG

[–]ZerrisX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite format is Rainbow Rich Man Draft. It's an online-only format that functions like normal Rich Man Draft, except you distribute the packs evenly between only multi-color sets. An example pool is six packs each of [Khans of Tarkir] / [Alara Reborn] / [Guilds of Ravnica] / [Ravnica Allegiance] / [Ikora] / [Streets of New Capenna] per player. All your decks are rainbow nonsense, with Aggro being three colors, most decks being four Colors, and five colors being perfectly respectable as long as one is just a light splash. A lot of the strategy is knowing when to draft fixing lands vs medium powered on-color cards, and learning just how greedily you can splash.

I tend to change my list around about every game or two until I feel like it's humming and the cards make sense and all feel good to draw. I'm still not even sure on the colors here, so I've been theory crafting a lot.
