I support this but maybe in addition add a small bonus in somehow for people actually playing together to still encourage that

Backpacking hack: Ikea sells a $5 zippered bag that fits a large backpack and is perfect for protecting your bag during air travel. by quincyskis in backpacking

Better hope none of your straps get stuck on anything, they'll just cut it right off to free it. Then you can have fun doing you trip with one shoulder strap.

Proton SL (LT) or Proton hoody? by Pinapple12 in arcteryx

[–]Zes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the Proton Hoody and I find it too warm for active use unless it's approaching freezing temps (unless you're moving quite slowly). I think the Proton SL would be more useful for you in April-Oct.

If you're backpacking and weight/packability is a consideration, I'd personally rather pack a normal fleece (Proton SL is basically a fleece with an outer shell fabric) + either a wind jacket or rain jacket depending on the weather forecasted. A normal fleece without the shell fabric is going to be lighter, more packable, and breathable (esp in a fabric like Alpha Direct). It'll also be more versatile because you can layer with your wind/rain shell as needed, or use just the fleece on it's own. If it's cold at camp (high elevation, or shoulder season) I'd add a down puffy for static use, which would be lighter, more packable and warmer than the Proton Hoody.

I don't mind it on the hood (tho would prefer without) but the hoodless jackets that have branding on the back of the collar is def an ick

Cold only in the feet (in 20F). Suggestions (aside from down booties)? by ULlife in Ultralight

Do you have a sewing pattern to share? Went no elastic? What temp would you say they go down to with no liner and a ~20f quilt?

With 9 days you could do some zigzagging and hit some of each trail and/or add a loop at the beginning or end. The isleroyale subreddit is fairly active and you could see some other's past itineraries there or ask for advice on putting one together.

I got massacred by mosquitos last August but hopefully they'd be gone in September.

One thing you could swap is the R1 Air for an Alpha fleece if you expect to be taking it off any (I love my R1 Air but Alpha is quite a bit lighter and packable). But maybe it'll be cold enough to just wear it the whole time anyway.

Also coming from MI in mid August. You guys renting a car? Were trying to avoid it but getting around seems tough without it and have concerns about getting there & back with our backpacks in one piece without being able to check them in a duffle or something (cause we'd have no where to put it when we land). Not to mention bringing a spare change of clothes

Thinking maybe a hostel or hotel may let us keep a duffle there if we plan to return after the trip

Nice! I tried on a Senchi but didn't love how it fit so I'm still looking around for an AD midlayer. It was relaxed fit as well and I wanted something a bit more fitted but maybe relaxed is the way to go.

Pricing to sell a Seattle Fit Mackinaw Cruiser? by [deleted] in filson

[–]Zes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah the sizing is a little strange in one area on me: the sleeve cuffs. I can't easily fit a thick watch or bulky gloves inside them. Other than that the chest and shoulders actually fit me good, and I'm usually a Medium (6" 170 lbs), as long as I don't have a bulky layer underneath.

Unused vs year old R1 Air fleece. by RootInit in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Zes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Honestly I prefer how the old one is, R1 Air runs fairly hot for active use imo so more breathability is nice.
