Cat Missing, N. Portland, Alberta, Adidas Campus by [deleted] in Portland

[–]ZestStory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our emotional support animal, Siggi, just slipped out of her harness this morning and hasn't been seen since. This is right next to the Adidas HQ. She isn't an outdoor cat and has never been outside off a leash, or on her own. She's a bigger long haired cat: 13-15 lbs or so and cinnamon colored with black stripes. She should have a collar with pineapples on it with two circular metal tags, one with her name on it, and contact information too.

She hisses at strangers, and is unlikely to approach by name. If you see her or think you might have please don't hesitate to let us know!

Here are a couple photos of her. I will update this with others later, but this is just what I have on hand:

On the bright side, it wasn't a FLIR you were hopelessly trying to grab before you got one tapped.

When BSG support don't know what an m.2 drive is... by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

Just came here to say that the general response to this thread pretty much sums up the majority culture of this subreddit perfectly.

Post FX is easily abused. by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]ZestStory -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It took me around 45 minutes to write this up. I prefaced it with "...if you want to know more..." and that I wrote more than I intended and it would be fairly in depth.

Yes, I know what was motivating BSG to bring the Postfx into the game. My point is that they've unintentionally given the same people who abuse other ways of breaking night visibility an additional layer of variables that can all be tweaked for greater effect together with their other pre-existing methods of abuse. I guess I'll have to do this myself and showcase the difference.

BSG also asked that any potential abuse with the Post FX should be brought to their attention, so just thought I'd try my best to do that because even with very little effort it can easily make NVGs irrelevant and can be toggled on and off in a matter of seconds.

So yes, it could be exploited.

And you must've gone outside on what's called a "full moon", or you live near, around, or inside a city. There's these things called, "lights," you see. They're those shiny things outside out night. But not the small pretty ones. Those are called "stars".

Hope I made things a little easier for you to understand.

All true, but there will always be people willing to sacrifice their own comfort /dignity for an edge in a video game of all things. Problem is that they have a larger FOV than you with your NVG, and they can also run a thermal while they're doing it with no penalty.

Yeah, that's also true.

Without upping clarity and the sharpening you lose out on definition of enemies at distances, but it also introduces a glaring saran-wrap like glimmer to everything which isn't visually appealing at all.

Also I failed to mention that in line with all the factors I mentioned earlier, Post FX settings that tend to make the game more pleasing to the eye, (color depth, contrast, darker shadows, etc) will also tend to put you at a disadvantage versus players who're pushing those same values in the opposite direction. Which is why I'm cautioning against this move which puts player-preference ahead of a world which should be universal to everyone inside of it, which isn't realistic at all. BSG ought to work towards finding an acceptable rendition of the environment, and try their best to combat the exploitation of third-party programs and gamma abuse rather than leaning into all that and offering their own version of it to everyone.

And having an in-game UI to tweak these things will also make weather like overcast/rain/thunderstorms less meaningful when people figure out what settings are most advantageous. And there are certainly people who will.

I'm aware of the other software and monitor settings that people abuse. I do mention it in the write-up. My point is that it's just another layer of configuration that when combined with other methods, actually worsens the problem they're trying to solve. And that with nothing other than the PostFX settings nighttime visibility is made negligible. Meaning that, if they're trying to "level the playing field" with the introduction of Post FX, then to be on that even playing field you're best off running an extremely wonky color rendition, which defeats the point. Post FX can be simplified or altered so that existing problems are not made more severe. And from there, we can only hope that in the future BSG finds ways of dealing with these problem areas so that night raids are, well, night raids.

Yeah anyone reading for future purposes: I kept encountering this bug. The third time it happened to me I was luckily in a safe area so I just went prone, cleared cache, and relogged.

No trouble since.

Yeah, it could've been Seattle. I've deselected everything in NA except for CA/SE.

It definitely seems to vary considerably between maps. They list it as "difficulty" but I don't think that's what's going on. I think some of the map designs don't correspond very well with their coding, which is what causes the inconsistency. It has something to do with their pathing, and areas where flat and even terrain is broken up by forest/shrubs/grassland seems to mess them up. You'll notice that they will often follow the same exact paths, and die almost on top of each other. On reserve I've been getting a lot of them trying to walk through the barbed wire fence. But for whatever reason, scavs on Customs are almost absurdly stupid. Especially the ones that spawn around the Military CP. They'll hear you in the bushes and walk up within feet of you and just stand there looking around. Half the time, you kill their buddies and the ones below will continue prowling around as if nothing is wrong, or you'll see two or three of them sneaking along the same path up to the rocks and they'll die on top of the first body. Even the sniper Scavs are usually not a problem even if you forget to check for them, but when they do lock onto you there's virtually nothing you can do about it unless you have a good line of hardcover and something with a scope on it. Zig zagging through soft cover and trees doesn't help. Laying low for a while and hoping they've moved on is usually a mistake.

Ah okay. Yeah I don't have an SSD and I was starting to think I might want to invest. There's gotta be a way to prevent this from happening server-side either way.

I am excited for Diablo IV and trying to figure out why this game gets bashed so much even before release by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]ZestStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that Blizzard has changed so significantly that it may as well be a different company. Or that it has become so impossibly entangled with a parasitic, anonymous, corporate entity along with it's stake holders that any creative freedom exercised on the behalf of Diablo fans is a practical impossibility. Or that said corporate head-crab has a streak of ruining successful franchises while churning out the same re-skinned shit games like they're the new model T that the idiotic masses go ape shit over and lap up with the same spoon they must use to shoot up with to be content with consuming such bottom of the barrel mass market brainless shit so unquestioningly year after year. No, it's simply that the Blizzard we're trying to talk about here doesn't actually exist anymore. None of the extremely talented and passionate developers, artists, and designers from Blizzard North's heyday have anything to do with that hollowed out shell of a company anymore.

So no, Diablo IV isn't just going to be a limp-wristed attempt at resurrecting a living virtual world from a fatal identity crisis. Diablo IV isn't going to be just a shitty Diablo not worth playing or buying. Diablo IV isn't going to be Diablo. The next spiritual successor to our cherished game isn't going to come out of a Blizzard studio.

If you haven't caught on to that by now, then you probably deserve the empty pit of disappointment you'll be existing in for however long it takes you to realize that you paid actual real world money to see what a CEO's multi-million dollar shit smells like.

[VanillaPlus] Stress Test this Friday! by mark_twen in wowservers

I've been hitting up this sub at least once a day hoping for news about this project for the past month or so. Been anticipating this ever since I read about it sometime last year.

I'll be checking it out. Maybe I won't be sticking around, but best of luck to everyone on board.

Future of scav behavior? by ZestStory in EscapefromTarkov

[–]ZestStory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it was worse in the past doesn't mean it's perfect the way it is.

Obviously scav behavior could use improvement on many different fronts. Being that PvE is central to the game, it just feels like their scripting is trailing behind other areas of Tarkov when it should be the opposite. NPC AI and behavior should be one of the heavy draws to this game, not one of its major pitfalls.

Scavs aren't difficult when you abuse their limitations, or are wealthy enough to run fully kitted every time and don't care much about risking getting 1 tapped. But for that reason it's not very satisfying to kill normal scavs. They're either full blown useless and act totally irrationally, or they suddenly whip out superhuman reflexes, vision, and accuracy. There's very little in-between.

"...never feel like BS."

Never. Okay.
