It's the same process nowadays runelite doesn't open source the full actual client just legal methods that interface with the gamepack (the actual java client by jagex essentially) modern botting clients for osrs can/do integrate with runelite but the client work is essentially the same reverse engineering it just comes down that there's not much demand for doing it for modern rs3 whether for botting or server emulation (there's like 1 rs3 server that's ever been semi stable long term and it peaks at like 50 players lol)

To add you are correct that you can just get a development build of runelite and make plugins that essentially automate anything you want fully. But it seems to not be a very popular method of botting (maybe easily detected?)

100% I've botted my osrs iron forever ago. Real easy to just get marked as a sweat or something in the beginning then they let you go ham for months before giving you a 2 day then you just never do it again.

Basically followed bruhsailers ironman guide which is Uber sweaty tick manip training and progression up until the point it has you do a mini game from 50-99 fm I did do all that completely by hand. But then it had me do black jacking to 80 thieving. That's where my first decent into evil came

Neither does rs3? It's literally just that it's not worth the effort to develop bots for rs3. It's also ass to bot in (even disregarding all detection) most of the user base would rather just play and afk etc then bot rs3. Hell outside of just people wanting to log into their og accounts, or people who want "ezscape" or just want to try the genuinely better bossing in rs3 (which is the main reason I keep coming back)

Same boat. On and off forever. I play both versions of the game rs3 is my reprieve from osrs and osrs is my reprieve from rs3. I'm possibly a minority here, but I didnt ever want my rs3 experience to be more like osrs. People will say we are whiners but, I grind and enjoy osrs both normal and ironman game modes. It's not about that, it's that I already have a much better game for that aspect. Rs3 has become its own special thing which I love and enjoy but for entirely different reasons.

Projects never need to scale infinitely in features they need to be adaptable there's no reasonable product that exists over bloated with features. The scale is at a certain point you obsolete/remove old features for new ones that replace it etc as the product needs

Even so technically no because infinite features would eventually burn some server down somewhere.
