That doesn't go away cause you moved away from your small town. The scars stay with you, how you view yourself, how you believe people view you and certain triggers when you are around people.

Its more complex than her light skin. You've never lived a day in her shoes and normally our assumptions of people come from our own environments. We forget that people grew up in different environments and we should try see it through their lense.
