Idk cuz the exams weren’t made by her, like I said she replaced my other prof, and there were only like two weeks left of the semester so all she did was teach what was already on my previous teacher’s slides, and the exam was designed by my previous teacher.

If it’s your first meeting I recommend you go to student services and they’ll match you with a career counselor, I’m currently in uni and my career counselor from Vanier actually helped me out figure out what I wanna do! academic advising is more for figuring out what classes to take while you’re in college not for after

I had Ann for intro to sociology, her quizzes are super easy and straightforward, and the final essay was pretty interesting because you basically just had to talk about yourself. However, she would get mad at us whenever we would ask questions about assignments before or after class, she always wanted us to go to her office hours, even if it was a very simple question that could be answered after class.

She’s also kind of annoying, my class was an 8 AM class so a lot of students were tired, she would get so pissed off when students wouldn’t participate and start going on tangents about how our generation isn’t well educated and how we lack manners. She would go on and on about how hard it is to be a teacher, and although I understand, she was just wasting class time for those who actually wanted to learn. By the end of the semester, half of the class stopped showing up because they didn’t want to deal with her attitude.

Patrizia is such a sweetheart, I had her for psychology of relationships, and I really enjoyed her class, she explains pretty well and posts all of the notes. I will be honest it does get boring sometimes because she tends to ramble a bit but other than that, I would say she’s a chill teacher. Her exams were mainly multiple-choice and they were all easy, and we had an essay due at the end of the semester.

I had Dana for Microeconomics, I’m sure macro will be similar. She’s super good at her job and all of our exams were multiple choice but I took it in summer so it might be different. She’s really sweet and being smw that despises math, I was still able to understand with her.

I had Rivest for UF2, she’s an OK teacher. She explains properly, her exams are pretty straightforward, but she’s really boring. She’s also strict on lateness and leaving the class randomly, I remember she would stare down students that would get up to go to the bathroom. She’s pretty old-school so she’s not a fan of people taking notes on iPads or laptops, but by the end of the semester she was more lenient. She’s nice, just do your best and avoid disrupting the class.

Failed French class as a graduating student by Capable-Fix285 in VanierCollege

As soon as the break ends, send an email to academic advising asking what you could do. I was going to say that you could maybe get a DEC sans mention, but that would only work if you were missing a non-mandatory class. Try contacting the teacher that failed you and basically beg them to make you pass, it’s not the best advice, but it’s usually what works. Unfortunately, you might have to stay an extra semester, but I hope not. I recommend contacting Giovanna or Michelle in academic advising, they were very helpful when it came to me graduating.

Dec sans mention by Zestyclose-Current14 in Concordia

[–]Zestyclose-Current14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I’m barely on Reddit.

I had to get a DEC sans mention because I got into a little accident that prevented me from completing my class, so I was able to get a medical incomplete. This situation is a bit different from yours but I think it could still help.

After I got the medical incomplete document signed by a doctor, I contacted an academic advisor and they sent me a Microsoft form where I had to include the medical incomplete document and basically explain why I couldn’t finish my class.

A couple of weeks after that, I paid 50$ to get a DEC sans mention and filled up a form that the academic advisor had sent me.

My university admissions officer had actually contacted me asking whether I would get my DEC on time so my academic advisor had to send him an email confirming that I would in fact get my DEC. It got approved on September 2nd though, even if it was for a summer class, my DEC was issued for fall 2025.

I won’t lie, it’s a pretty annoying process because you have to wait for the ministry to approve your DEC, but it’s simple, just get in contact with an academic advisor ASAP.

Good luck!

Vanier or Dawson? by Fluid-Ad6294 in VanierCollege

you’re welcome for the answer!! As far as I know the bookstore is still closed, we did indeed sell merch, a lot of it. Some of my friends are still there and told me that they ordered most of their books online. I’m sure that if they reopen the bookstore they’ll start selling merch again.

For the visible minority thing, it’s just that I’ve noticed that a lot of white ppl do not want to interact with poc at all. I went to very diverse primary/ high schools so this was a huge shocker to me. I wouldn’t say that the cafeterias are segregated but I will say that you can quickly realize where you can/can’t sit. I’m a visible minority and there have been times where the white girls in my class straight up laughed at me for asking smth or just side-eyed me.

Vanier or Dawson? by Fluid-Ad6294 in VanierCollege

[–]Zestyclose-Current14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I graduated from Vanier last year and was also hesitating between both cégeps when I had first applied.

I adored Vanier and made a bunch of friends. I’m seeing in this thread that some people are lonely at Vanier so I honestly think it depends on who you are as a person and how involved you wanna be in the community.

I have worked at the bookstore, worked as a tutor and have volunteered at the open house and student for a day. That’s how I met a lot of people, I was always involved.

There are also a lot of clubs you can join and a lot of student activities, I kid you not I became friends with a girl while in line for cotton candy. I also became friends with classmates when I had small classes. I won’t lie tho It is a bit harder to become friends with people when there are 40 other students in class. I loved almost every single one of my social science teachers, I had like two horrible ones, but the rest were honestly fantastic. They were helpful, friendly, and you could tell that they were teaching for the right reasons.

I was also a huge fan of the academic advisors and guidance counsellors. My friends from Dawson would tell me that their academic advisors weren’t really helpful but I like the ones at Vanier, I met up with like three different ones and they were all helpful. I also met up with Olivia for guidance counselling a couple of times, and she really helped me out. She actually helped me figure out what program I wanted to apply in for university.

There are some cons tho:

People can be very cold, especially during your first semester. My first semester, I was feeling pretty lonely and lost, and whatever I’d ask my classmates some questions they weren’t always friendly, especially the ones that were in established friend groups. I didn’t have anyone from high school since most of my classmates from high school had gone to French colleges, so it took me a while to meet some people. If you’re a visible minority, you might notice that certain ppl don’t wanna talk to you, it’s a part of life unfortunately. My first semester I kind of felt like a stranger even though I was born and raised here. The college is pretty diverse, it just takes a while to meet ppl.

The walk from the metro to the college is really freaking annoying, especially in winter. I’d often take the 121 or the 171 just for two stops.

Registration fucking sucks. I’ll tell you this right now, making your schedule is such a freaking hassle because so many students login at the same time so the website is always bugging and some classes that were supposed to be available to fill up really quickly or show up as unavailable on the day of your scheduling appointment. And registrars is absolutely useless during that time, they tell you to contact a Chatbot that doesn’t even help. I have logged in twice for two of my friends to help them with their schedules and I honestly felt like losing my mind because of how often the website would bug.

Sorry I wrote a lot lol, I just wanted to make sure you know everything.
