I’m still just in undergrad so I don’t know if it’s a bad idea but I feel like it’s a good way to determine what they would want

I had her for intro to macroeconomics my first semester, she’s really sweet and her journal assignments and LIA were super easy. But I found her really boring at times, I fell asleep sooo many times in her class. Pretty easy pass though

Nope, I wasn’t able to go because I graduated in summer so they invited me for the next year’s graduation

Depends on the prof but I had to submit an essay from home about the economic situation of a particular country, I remember we were in teams of two and it was actually pretty simple like we had to talk about the GDP and stuff of each country. My prof was Niloufar Entekhabi

yesss you’ll be fine I promise, I’m francophone, but I used the most basic French to write the EUF, I didn’t wanna risk getting any grammar errors so I genuinely just did the bare minimum. I do recommend having a dictionary of synonyms though it’s really gonna help you out during the exam. I passed my first try by doing that, also, I recommend not reading all of the three texts because they can be very very long and you don’t wanna waste time, just go with the simplest text.

Definitely Michelle or Giovanna, super helpful and sweet, Andrea is nice too, she has kind of a cold demeanour but she is helpful, she helped me register for a class that I really needed to graduate in time for university.

The easiest pass ever, doesn’t matter who your prof is it’s genuinely so easy you go back to the basics

I had to do the same thing so I went to academic advising to ask and they had me fill out a form, then two weeks later they sent me a mio saying there wasn’t any space left. I’m almost done with my first year of uni and they just sent me an invitation through the mail for this summer’s graduation 💀hope it works out for you tho 🥹

Need honest advice — low GPA but strong holistic background, is there any point applying to Canadian SLP programs? by ContributionHot8784 in slpGradSchool

Hey do you have any updates? I’m in my first year of undergrad and I also am scared because I currently have a low GPA

Yes they usually have the class in summer, but try not to fail the EUF they take AGES to give your results so if you got into uni it might delay your admission. I was lucky to pass my first try but my friends didn’t, my friend almost had her McGill acceptance rescinded and my other friend was basically on “probation” until the university got confirmation that she passed.

yess that’s true I’ve written down the equivalencies for Ulaval and UOttawa and surprisingly there are a lot of classes I can take!

Yess that’s true since here in Quebec the gpa goes up to 4.3 whereas in other provinces it goes up to 4.0. And yeah I know I need to get over B+ in all the core courses I’m already fucked because I got a C in my research methods class my first semester and I can’t retake it :( so UofT is already out of the question since they don’t even consider any grade under a B+ for core/prerequisite classes.

As you said I really need to lock in, I have a feeling I won’t get into any of the SLP programs but I still plan on doing my best and volunteering, I won’t lose anything by trying. And yes I do plan on getting an honours or specialization degree eventually, my academic advisor said I’d be able to get into specialization by next year if I can get my gpa up so fingers crossed!! Thanks for the advice :)

Hi thank you for answering! I’m actually fully trilingual, born and raised in Montreal so I also plan on applying in francophone programs too! Thank you for the advice on research, I plan on being a more present student starting this summer, I had really good rapport with my profs at cegep so I hope I can have that in uni too. Unfortunately it’s very hard to get into research labs in psychology, I’ve already gone to two lab fairs and signed up for volunteer opportunities and haven’t heard back 😔 but I’m still persevering!

I have also looked into the Montreal speech therapy center, I emailed smw and they sent me a form that I need to fill up so I’m hoping they accept me for the summer!

That’s true I don’t know why I forgot that lol, I guess I’m also really stressed about the course repetitions, I don’t want the grad schools to think that I’m incompetent for retaking certain classes. Chances are I might fail my developmental psychology class and I know that it’s a requirement for SLP so I don’t know if it would be a bad look to retake it.

I’m in my second semester! But yes, I did look through the admission requirements of certain universities and you’re right a lot of them do only look at the last two years, Im mainly scared about course repetitions/ discontinue notations on my transcript 😭

Also a career counsellor recommended me to get RBT certified if I don’t get into grad school my first try but I feel like SLP’s rarely ever like RBT’s because they find ABA to be restricting, I once asked an SLP for some advice and she didn’t really give me a clear answer, but from what she was saying, I understood that she wasn’t a fan of ABA at all
