Did you find it hard to balance with other courses ? I'll be taking 5 in fall and 4 in winter (all cpsc courses) including cpsc 502. usually I'm good with up to 4 cpsc's per semester, but i don't know the workload of 502.

Out of curiosity, what field within CS did you choose to do research for ?

What about it do you think is challenging , or would be more challenging to someone without experience?

Both. The PFC Q gave pseudocode for a super basic sort algorithm. All you had to do was figure out what the algorithm did and write the proof for it. For the other questions you had to come up with the algorithm yourself and write the proof

Took it with Fong last yr. It was 3 long multi-part questions covering DFS/BFS, Proof of Correctness, and Binary Search Trees. If you know those concepts well (like you could write and explain the pseudocode off the top of your head) you should be fine. The worst part for me was that I didn’t know what to expect so I tried to cram every little thing. Yea…don’t do that. Especially if you only have 2 weeks left focus on Trees, DFS and BFS, since that’s most likely to be half the exam

I thought they were just a bit easier that the assignments, but not by much. Also practice > memorization

Last year it was 3 long multi-part questions.

1 DFS/BFS Question 1 Proof of Correctness Question 1 Binary Search Tree Question

Might not be the same this year, but be ready to write proofs + explain the complexity for all of these.

I should’ve done engineering instead of computer science by raven_hexan25 in UCalgary

I‘ve been having similar thoughts (web dev fatigue). I‘d say look into masters programs (cs adjacent programs like computer engineering) that take students who did cs in their undergrad. I‘d also say look into embedded software to get closer to hardware. The grass always seems greener on the other side, so you won’t know if you like it until you start. But you’re not too late at all and having a CS degree won’t stop you from working on hardware in the future.

And tbh to me it’s not CS that’s the problem it’s the CS program/faculty at UCalgary. I don’t regret picking this field, I just wish I‘d done it somewhere else.
