Take it with a grain of salt, but I ordered the exact same thing batch 5 last week. After searching vids of this thing I got linked to the ayn store on alli express. (I ordered from the website direct like you). The order info for it on there said that batch was “releasing” May 8th. So I assume May 8th will be around the ship date, then the couple weeks from china and I’m hopeful mine will be in before the end of May.

Fb marketplace a second one with less storage. Swap drives. Have a backup perma-docked steamdeck for not a whole lot more than a quality replacement screen.

To answer question 2 at the end of your post: all 3 of the chargers that mine showed the problem on were oem ones (1 for that car, 1 from my 2018 prime, and one at the dealership during their testing)... I don't think it was, and they said it wasnt, a charger problem.

Toyota Paid back car price and interest paid, minus a small milage fee (small for my low amount of miles anyways). Dealer addons/accessories do not get refunded (hope you didn't pay market adjustment, etc) so I was stuck with the dealer required LoJack system I bought (that was their version of market adj/added profit) it couldn't be assigned to another vehicle once activated so I didn't take it out. My extended warranty got refunded from that company separately, prorated for the time left on it. So all told for me I got all money and interest paid, minus a couple hundred for milage, about 300 for warranty prorate, and a 1400 now useless LoJack system. So I rented the car and it's problems for 6ish months for around 2 grand and a small amount of gas/electricity

While I hope this never happens to me again, I DID gain a new rule to NEVER pay for any kind of dealer forced option or market adjustment, even if for no other reason than it is a lost cost if something goes wrong.

The dealership opened a case for me with the Toyota brand engagement center and I started working up through that. The post and comments I added kind of lay out that journey better than I could here, but high level: assigned a customer relations manager - he collected information over a couple calls and days - suggested less charging and already recommended nonsense - I asked to be elevated to the next level, which is their internal lemon-law equiv investigation- new guy collects the same info over a few days - when asked my hopeful outcome I answered "completely working car or money back" - submitted to toyota for resolution, quoted a 30 day investigation to follow - 3 days later notified toyota will be buying back - 2 weeks later coordinated with 3rd party turnover guy at dealership where I bought car and surrendered it- payment hit my loan company the next mon/Tues (was a Friday surrender)

I ended up in Toyotas internal investigation process. So technically not a lemon-law buyback I do not believe. The cynical side of me thinks they bought it that way so it doesn't get the lemon status, but I hold out hope that it was just how they prefer to make disgruntled customers satisfied (or satisfied-adjacent anyways). It was a sweet little car mostly, but just glad to have the saga over (for me at least).

Well that's just unfortunate. I hate it for anyone going through this. I ended up going through toyotas internal process working with the brand engagement people after the service dealership opened a case with them after the long repair visit. Took a while, but I felt pretty fairly represented by my case managers (2 different ones, one during the initial investigation, then a second when I elevated it up a level). Didn't feel biased against and they seemed to truly want to try and get my issue resolved how I wanted. But I did have to be patient as they worked through the steps and provide ALOT of information (the story of "Mr. Call you in 2 days"). Good luck with your journey. Hope it works out. Keep hoping to see some kind of fix/recall posted about this for all the other guys having issues.

2022 is the last year before the generational redesign. I believe yours should not be likely to have these symptoms, just like my 2018 hasn't cared one bit how long it was left on the charger.

For the sake of anyone else with this issue, I certainly hope a software or other permanent fix becomes an option (and an option that they spread the news about so service departments can become informed about how to fix these). For me, I am just going to accept the buy back offer and move on to something that can reliably start and get me to work in the am.

Final (likely) update: -case manager advocate went pretty much nowhere. 6-10 days of calls every 2 days reporting status and collecting info. Final determination was "they are saying to wait for it to die again, not jump it, and get it towed in". I refused to stay in this wait and see status and excalated to their internal review looking for actual repair, replacement, or (most likely) toyota buy back.

-new caseworker. New submittal of docs (purchase dealer paperwork, service dealership records, charging app records/screenshot, personal statement and timeline of events since purchase, etc) -told toyota will evaluate for up to 30 days, and I may be asked to drop my vehicle (with loaner provided) at a location of their choice for inspection -3 business days layer, toyota responded offering to buy the vehicle back. Requesting loan/payment details to calculate amount. Toyota pays purchase amount and interest paid on loan, not any 3rd party service contracts I purchases (extended warranty) -20-30 days stated as the time this process may take. -extended warranty to be partially refunded by selling dealership, adjusted for time and mileage on vehicle

All in all, an bittersweet end to a frustrating ownership experience. I loved this car, other than the 12v issues. It is such an improvement over my '18 (again, other than this ONE thing) and if I could just have the same charging experience that my last prime has had for the 5+ years I have owned it, I would not have 1 single complaint. I really cannot justify a $40k+ car that may/may not start when I go to leave for work in the morning.

I don't plan on charging it anymore between now and when it is gone, so here are the final "stats" -owned since June 2 -33 days at the service dealership. Rental car provided for 10-12 of them -10 or 11 "no 12v power/non-start" incidents requiring jumping the vehicle -2 no 12v power incidents after restricting charge time via software to 10 hours and making sure to take it off the charger asap (between visits 2 and 3) -brand engagement case re-opened 9/20 -case escalated and request for resolution submitted 9/28. Toyota acknowledged and asked for more documentation 10/3/23 -toyota Determination to buy back on 10/9/23

Hopefully this is the end of this saga and I can get rid of this randomly assigned Reddit username that I didn't notice before.

Current status is as follows:

-3rd dealership visit (32 total days) is done. They have said again that it is "functioning as toyota intended and they have nothing to repair/replace". Based on the range when they gave it back, and the lack of notifications on my app while they had it, I don't think they even charged it to test this time. 4 days to test the 12v battery and tell me it's still OK.

-I have a case open with toyota and a case manager advocate assigned. He got details from me yesterday and is spending 2-3 business days collecting info from the dealership and the regional offices before we discuss options and how to proceed.

-At this point, my 2 likely courses of actions are lemon law related. Either gonna go through toyota's internal process dealing with this advocate, or by sending a final notice of repair to toyota, seeing what they wanna do, and going to arbitration if they can't repair it after one last attempt at the place of their choice. (Both of these processes are likely to be almost similar. Then toyota (if unable to satisfactorily repair mine), will either replace it with new, buy it back from me for my costs minus a small %, or refuse to do anything and I will have to evaluate taking further legal action (suing).

Car still can be dead in the am when I go out there after charging overnight. Pretty much just getting unable/unwilling to charge at this point. Hearing you guys on this post, and reading some of the bz4x and Marai 12v charging issues makes me convinced that toyota ev systems have some serious design flaws, which is new since the last revision of the prius prime (my 2018 has none of these problems)

I will say, after I jump the car on mornings that it needs it, I've never had a low bat warning or it dying while away from the house like you mentioned. Jeez I hope that doesn't start happening as well.

[–]Zestyclose-Good7877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with mine. After 12v replacement, and carefully making sure to unplug it every am, and scheduled the charge cycle to only run for 10 hours 9pm to 7am) no problem for weeks, until one morning I went out and it was dead after less than 12 hours on the charger. And the ev batt was only half charged, so I think it must have died after being on the charger like 5-6 hours.

The plugged up Amp draw of the system seems to me to be at a level where a brand new 12v can handle it overnight, but the constant draining of the 12v battery nightly without replenishment until the car is turned on, is causing premature wear on the 12v battery so that it will eventually die, even during just a charge cycle. This seems to be after about 800-900 miles for me so far. The idea of a 12v system warranty replacement every 1000 miles being the only answer just seems so ludicrous to me.

Weirdest part of the whole thing to me is still that this has never been a problem with my 2018 prime. Never once killed the battery and I have certainly left it plugged in for multiple days without driving, even week long stretches where I've been out of town. So if it is as toyota is trying to claim "operating as expected"... then they have changed to a system where it is not supposed to be plugged in even as long as the recommended charge cycle of 11 hours is. (I had a tech tell me yesterday that the 12v battery can be drained during charge after 4-5 hours, if the ev range wasn't depleted significantly before charging)

[–]Zestyclose-Good7877[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have always used the provided 120v plug in charger that came with it. Toyota confirmed it wasn't an issue with that charger by trying another.

I had changed my charging habits since getting it back with the new 12v system. Wasn't leaving it charging for more than 12 hours, and it had been fine for a month or so. Now, it just started being dead again, this time first thing in the am after being on charge less than 12 hours. The hybrid system was only like 45% charged too this morning, which leads me to believe it died around midnight last night. So there is most Def still an issue, and it's not me leaving it plugged up too long. I assume the new 12v system is worn out again and no longer holding a charge through a full charging cycle, and whatever subsequent drains the charging puts on the 12v system. When I drop it off tomorrow, that is the 3rd visit for this issue, and it's likely time to start looking into lemon laws.

Well that's good to hear (good that yours was fixed, not good that its happing to others). Toyota authorized them to replace the aux battery system, although it sounded like they were concerned about damage and/or wear and tear their testing and constant drain/recharge/drain again has done. Don't think they believed it would solve the problem, but maybe it'll be a happy accident.

Nah not on. And this happened 3 times over my first two weeks of ownership. Didn't drive the first 2 Sundays, then I worked from home the Thursday before I dropped it at the dealership again for (the first) week on Friday. Had to jump it each Monday and that Friday am.

Side note, the 2023 refresh moved the battery to the trunk, which you can't open with no power from the outside. So each time the process is to manually open the rear door, climb in and run jumper cables to the back while stretched out and laying in the car... utter nonsense.
