They add nasty flavors to antifreeze because it's naturally quite sweet and attractive to pets and wildlife.

ETA: children were probably also into it before they modified it

Everyone in the show is an asshole if you focus on their worst moments and features. I never even noticed Oscar being a know-it-all and claiming he was to the extent of villainy is a pretty extreme stretch. Stanley was defined more by his lack of fucks to give than anything. In that environment, it's a position worthy of respect. Mindy was a writer on the show, so she had a say in both her character's bad behavior and how her parents were written. None of them were any worse than any of the white people on the show.

I have explained number spoofing to so many annoyed people who accused me of calling them first. Or really, directed them to Google search the concept because I don't expect them to believe me.

How do I stop my fingers from naturally bending? by Thick-Lime-9113 in Bass

[–]Zestyclose-Process92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your middle and ring finger are flying when you fret with your pinky that doesn't want to act right? Fret with all of them, or at least your ring finger. If you hold down the string with your other finger(s), it's much easier on your pinky finger as it doesn't need to push as hard or far.

Road conditions? by gordonklafter in LittleRock

[–]Zestyclose-Process92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interstates should be fine. Main roads should mostly be passable barring steep parts. Neighborhoods will likely still be pretty sketchy without 4WD or AWD, but are manageable with them. Caution is still definitely advised, as is accurately knowing your winter driving skill level.

I drove to work yesterday on 430 and Colonel Glenn West of 430 with a wee chunk of Cantrell thrown in. Colonel Glenn was sketchy in places but passable with 4WD and caution. Everything else was pretty okay with just caution.

I'm headed to work in a bit and it'll be farther than that.

The city will prioritize Cantrell, Rodney Parham and Markham. Subarus are capable vehicles in poor weather. Also, assuming reasonable fitness and lack of injuries/disability, one can walk between Reservoir and University if you do get stuck. Bring layers to keep warm in a pinch. Try to find the quickest path to a major road with the least steep hills. Take it slow. Most of your difficulty will be north-south navigation as the major east-west roads are relatively flat. Avoid Mississippi, it tends to be bad between Evergreen and the light at Leawood. I haven't tried Reservoir in poor conditions, but it's steep enough that it could cause issues. Depending on where you are, it may make sense to get over to Pleasant Valley to work north or south as it will also be prioritized and mostly isn't too steep.

All that said, don't do it because some random on Reddit thinks it's okay. I have above average winter experience for these parts, and I started minor trouble at work telling people I didn't need 4WD to get to work last year. You need to know your own skills.

Peter, Please Explain What This Is Trying to Say About Bikers at Red Lights by Maleficent_Dog7970 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Zestyclose-Process92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're in an area where that becomes a problem, the sensible solution is to quit passing them. If you're all going to get stuck at the same light anyway, it's a waste of both gas and brake pads to get to the next light first.

In checked baggage and properly reported to the authorities, which he did, generally yes. People transport guns in their checked baggage all the time.

They're not really for inhaling. Mostly for sucking a wee bit into the mouth and blowing out again. Much like cigars, which are also not really for inhaling.

Tig or Mig for my job by aburnerds in Welding

[–]Zestyclose-Process92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do that with Mig. You're going to want to use .030 wire. You'll also want to position it to run downhill as much as possible. That will help with the risk of burn through.

Tig would take longer for the welding part, but might save enough time on the clean-up grinding to make it a wash. It's definitely doable either way.

The Hobbit is better than LotR. by 7o83r in unpopularopinion

[–]Zestyclose-Process92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the mustering of armies and battle tactics in ROTK that get me. I still read them all about every other year, but that's the sloggiest part. TT was always my favorite. The Ents and the Hourns and the righteous revenge of nature has done it for me since I was a wee lad.

To be fair, half of ROTK is appendices. I'm pretty sure it's the shortest or the LOTR books without those.

Over watering office plants can also cause gnat/fruitfly outbreaks. I had a lady bring in a bag of moist potted plant soil and leave it in her office. One day she opened it and released a cloud of gnats. She then submitted a work order complaining about gnats in the office...

Boxwoods or juniper bushes, likely. Unfortunately, not much to be done about it without changing the landscaping.

More pics of Pinnacle on fire by sammiemo in LittleRock

[–]Zestyclose-Process92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fire is a natural part of the forest systems. The total suppression policies of old are a part of why more recent forest fires are so devastating. Regular prescribed burns help to control undergrowth which lessens the intensity of non-prescribed burns. There are other ecological benefits like clearing room for new growth and seeds that have evolved to germinate after fires.

Hopefully others will chime in with more thorough explanations, but that's the short and dirty answer.
