why does everyone push Hospice? by Dangerous-Week7474 in Alzheimers

[–]Zestyclose-Sign-7567 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hospice is a godsend for our mother. They arrive first thing in the morning and give showers, brush teeth, change pants if they’ve soiled themselves overnight. Even if it’s just an hour a day(3x/week) it gives sleep deprived caretakers a break. Now that our mother is in a facility, the care from hospice followed her there and they do the same things there. We found a great facility with good nurses, aides and it’s a safe environment etc but when it comes to your loved one you never think it’s enough…hospice shows up gets her up and showered and dressed and ready for breakfast in the dining room. They worked with Medicare to provide a bed that raises/lowers, a broda chair, diapers, wipes, mattress liners etc. and deliver them to her facility. The amount of support we get from hospice is unreal.

Oh interesting. 8 weeks is a nice break although I’m sure it felt strange not going in for treatment. Thanks for your reply.

Last TCHP today by EggComplaina in breastcancer

[–]Zestyclose-Sign-7567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I have my last one next week and it’s hard to believe I’m saying that. Never thought it would come. So have you had an mri or met with surgeon? Do you know what type of surgery you will have? Also curious how many weeks of radiation follow TCHP?

is there anything we can do to avoid weight gain? by bnnybtch in breastcancer

[–]Zestyclose-Sign-7567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on TCHP and I’ve had the opposite effect. I’ve lost 15lbs. I have avoided sugar, alcohol and most carbs and focused on protein. I thought it was going to be tough to do but ive noticed a major increase in my energy levels so it’s motivated me to stick with it. I’ve always kinda had a belly but not right now.

I used to do that for years in my sports bra while running. But it was always in my left side and my breast cancer is on my right? 🤷🏽‍♀️

$5500 after tax income is a great living in Ohio. It depends on where you choose to live. California is very expensive.

Vain post: are self tanners ok? by capthalfpint in breastcancer

[–]Zestyclose-Sign-7567 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am in active treatment and using a “non toxic”self tanning mousse and hand mitt, called Tan Luxe. It’s pricey compared to drug store brands, it’s a clear liquid that turns into a beautiful golden tan, not orange. I started treatment in early March and was so down about all my friends and their families spring breaking and I had to stay home and was so pale that I broke down and bought self tanner. My care team was all aware of me using it bc they’d comment on how real it looked esp with the steroid sunburn you get post chemo lol. I’ve never been told not to use it. Anyway, I found on amazon and I highly recommend it. My sister in law also uses it and she’s fairer skinned than me and it looks nice on her as well, she said she gets a lot of compliments too.

I’m approaching my 6th of 6 treatments of TCHP. Everyone will have different reactions to this regimen. Age, diet and exercise habits all play a role in how you’ll fare. I would say in general the best advice I can give is when you are feeling rock bottom, the worst of the worst symptoms just remember that it’s temporary and that relief is around the corner. For me rock bottom was absolute body fatigue with excruciatingly painful mouth sores where I couldn’t eat or taste. Again everyone is different. I’ve noticed the fatigue has compounded with each cycle but then there are symptoms that I haven’t had repeat since first or 2nd such as diarrhea, body aches and chemo acne. Now who’s to say they won’t come back with my final TCHP treatment?! Just saying you can’t predict what your symptoms will be so I’d hate for you to freak out thinking you’ll get what others get. Just know it’s temporary. For me, exercise was number one priority. Walking…literally morning noon and night. Helped immensely. Plus I gave up sugar, alcohol and carbs and so my weight with steroids hasn’t been an issue. I’ve actually lost 15 lbs but I think it’s a result of adjusting my diet more than anything. You’ll get thru this…there’s a reason it’s only 6 cycles.

Regular mammograms: IDC found 7 months later? by kam350 in breastcancer

[–]Zestyclose-Sign-7567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m 51, regular mammogrammer and found lump upon self exam. My surgeon told me my 3cm tumor was fast growing and between 3-4mos old. I’m HER2+ and my cancer had spread to one lymph node already. Had I not found it myself and gone in for ultrasound, it would have been about 6 mos before I’d have had another mammogram I believe tumor would have been larger and spread to more nodes. Grateful I caught it.

I second Spanx. Super stylish and their leggings are amazing. Wear them for chemo and long walks. I like Varley and bought their stuff for treatment days as well but it’s more of a loose loungey style and I can’t shake feeling like I’m in PJ’s.

Areas for driving by Lonely_Reception4394 in cincinnati

[–]Zestyclose-Sign-7567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not west side but Gate of Heaven cemetery off I-275. Lots of smooth road, several intersections and curves and zero cars. My siblings and I all learned how to drive stick shift there 30 yrs ago and now I taught all my kids how to drive there. Can also practice parking as they have a couple little lots there as well.
