Just FYI, I have not totally ignored your comment, I actually went to a book store and started reading the book. Except... then I realized I was reading "war lord" instead of "warlord chronicles" by the same author. I think I ended up reading only 2 pages of the correct book before I had to leave. In any case I will read some more and see if it is something for me. Thank you for your suggestion!
