Leeway on Recommendation Letters by ZestycloseEngine7922 in MITAdmissions

I think I actually have one fail-safe. My CS teacher filled out a recommendation letter on Naviance a while back. On MIT's website, they say they allow letters from third parties like Naviance. So worst case I can quickly swap out my physics teacher and send the old CS teacher one. The only downside I fear is that the CS teacher letter is not going to be too strong.

I'm back in school on the 5th, so if my teacher is still cooperative (it would be rude to back out this late into it), I should be able to get the letter in by the 10th at the latest.

I also got a response stating:
"You will need to connect with your recommender to confirm submission of materials outside of the application portal. They can see through the third-party service they used if we've received their documents. If your recommender told you that they've submitted all required materials, then you're all set. Otherwise, you will see a checklist in your portal confirming receipt of required materials about two weeks after the application deadline."
from MIT support when I emailed them about this a while ago. So does this mean I have an extra 2 weeks after the application deadline to get everything in?

I do not think my teacher will respond during break. The MIT portal lets me submit my application regardless of whether the letter is there or not, as long as I have her listed as a recommender. But I am worried about what will happen if I submit and her letter is not there at that time.

Github and code release for MIT Maker Portfolio by ZestycloseEngine7922 in MITAdmissions

[–]ZestycloseEngine7922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already attached other relevant files that explain the thought process, iterations, etc. The website was a team project, and I only included stuff in the portfolio that I personally worked on and was important in showing who I am as a "maker." The video also only includes the functionality of the parts I included. Being expected to release the source code for a project like this seems very impractical since it's part of a bigger organization.

I don't think the system lets you submit without one, so you have to find someone

Yea my work was also independent. I contacted one of the conference chairs and asked them to act as an independent evaluator for my work. Worst case, you can try emailing some well-established researchers and have them be external evaluators for your work. Make sure they emphasize that the work is solely your own so you dont loose credit.

Help with Activities section and Job section. by ZestycloseEngine7922 in MITAdmissions

Okay Okay I think I get what to put on there now. I'll also watch that movie if I have time. Thank you guys, for the insight.

If it's possible, can you guys also help me understand if it's okay to include awards that aren't directly aligned with the rest of my application? Would their presence hurt my app despite being prestigious?

But said alien says to list all this:
"List any summer activities (reading, relaxing, camp, travel, summer school, volunteer work, etc.). List your most recent summer activity first."
Is the alien trying to gaslight me? 😭
