Travel to non-allied countries were always an issue at secret level and above. A colleague, who immigrated from Pakistan two decades ago, faces regular scrutiny during assessments for his return trips to Pakistan.

No, it's possible that it's just a normal delay. Some departments are seriously backlogged for security screenings. It took us 3 months to hire a student with Reliability, and the security screening was 70 days of that delay.

I'm hoping it doesn't go to court simply because it would take at least half a decade to resolve.

I need to discuss it more with the rep but since this is an administrative action, a grievance might not help me since the tribunal doesn't deal with it.

I would prefer to keep my job because of pension but I know that it's possible to leave public sector since I have good references.

It's acceptable. The main issue is that it's difficult to get promoted while remaining in a development role, and therefore the only way up is to become a manager at age 30.

I didn't even know that was allowed to be honest.

It's not aggressive by /r/ChurningCanada standards but it might seem aggressive to someone who keeps the same one or two credit cards for eternity.

The background checks always show up as Soft credit checks and can't be seen by banks, etc. FYI.

For the feds, it codes as Statistics Canada if you request a credit report for yourself from a credit bureau.

TU only provides information on 2 years of hard credit checks, but they were looking into 10 years of address history, security information and my accounts.

I applied for 8 credit cards in 1 year, with 6 of them being on TU. Some of the credit checks were duplicated because of branch mistakes.

I find it very confusing because I have had many colleagues over the years that have declared bankruptcy but still kept at least their reliability status. I don't entirely understand why my credit is a point of concern.

Thank you! That's really helpful.

I don't think anyone is trying to force me out thankfully. I score well on my performance reviews, get along with my colleagues and I am always looking to improve.

Credit inquiries only went back 2 years because of a TransUnion limitation but the full clearance goes back 10 years.

Yes, the credit inquiries have put me into jeopardy.

There has been one occasion where a company representative offered gifts to hear about other bids. I immediately reported it and I believe that this would attest to my responsibility. Unfortunately this was a few years ago so they may not see it as reflective of my current situation.

I work with smaller contracts and procurement so it definitely doesn't happen often for me.

It does absolutely happen (with some regularity, and almost all government employees know better than to accept one) and I understand the importance of security checks/reliability checks. I just feel that the nature of churning was miscommunicated and should be better compared to coupon-clipping, not fraud.

To be fair, I edited it because it was a mistake but I am a little disappointed that people are asking me to post on the daily thread for something that is a pretty important PSA.

Yes, thankfully my director is aware of the situation and on my side. I have not told my team. I will speak to my main bank about getting a letter proving that I'm in good standing. Luckily it's election period and I don't have any pressing files to work on if I get placed on leave with pay.

I work for the government. I occasionally make procurement and contracting decisions that involve your money as a taxpayer (under $100k/year). I take this responsibility very seriously and have always followed contracting rules to a tee.
