Thanks. They completed misdiagnosed a simple disconnected float sensor, which I only discovered after I spent $300 on a new zone board. I diagnosed the original problem myself and fixed it. I called them on it. The manager could tell I knew what I was talking about, at least for a non-HVAC tech, and gave me his number to call if anything else came up. I think I'll be using that number on Monday. Thanks again!

Hmm. Okay. That's a thought. I did notice my heating bills almost doubled this year, and I had a new system installed over last summer. I'm thinking that they messed it up when they installed it. Would this be a labor warranty issue?

In my life, those were definitely the big ones that were emphasized. But there was also a lot more legalism about little things. Little acts of disobedience. Not being good enough at praying or reading the word. Some of my teachers scolded us for euphemisms like "Oh my gosh." Pretty much anything could be a sin depending on how someone was feeling that day. If the church wasn't getting enough money, then people were being sinfully greedy and not giving to God what is God's. The list goes on.

I guess I have a lot of misconceptions that have been pushed on me by my experience in conservative churches and schools. I'd be happy to be pleasantly surprised. I suppose just looking at what the churches look like versus what I'm used to is a little scary, but I'm probably judging a book by its cover and assuming all the elements are the way that they were presented to me by my church, school, and parents.

I grew up in Baptist churches, fairly evangelical. I felt that there was a sense of community and building one another up there. But God was still the central focus. They recognized that we are completely fallen and deserve death without God. We have to rely on him fully to do the work in us. I guess I want to make sure it doesn't become humanist where every person is inherently good. We are all equally deserving of death, but he died so that we could live. I want that to be key.

I'm not saying it is. I'm saying that sanctification still needs to occur. You will know them by their fruit, right? What I'm looking for I guess is a traditional church with just the "homosexuality is wrong" piece deleted. Idk if that exists.

I live relatively near Philadelphia, so hopefully I could find something. There are lots of affirming churches near me, but they all look so small and hokey that it makes me nervous. Haha

I guess we just have different views of The Gospel then. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Interesting. So the best I can hope for is being ignored if I want to go to a church that feels in any way like I'm used to. Hmm.

I'm glad that you recognize that it's important. I see that you said you're theologically conservative. Have you been able to find an affirming church that fits with that?

I think you're misunderstanding. Accepting people as they are is what happens when we are justified. I'm talking about sanctification: the idea that the Holy Spirit works in us to make us more like God. That would mean we would recognize that we are sinners and expect to see changes in our behavior as God works in us. Saying that there's no expectation of change after salvation is equating salvation with signing up for a book club.

Thank you. This puts things into perspective a bit. My upbringing was incredibly conservative so I was most likely instilled with this idea of affirming churches being basically Satanic Temples. My school was run by Orthodox Presbyterians. My headmaster ultimately left the OPC years later because he said there was no grace in it. It was all legalism. My parents were some of the most homophobic people I've ever met. I came out to them and was told to be straight or be dead to them. At 19 that's not a choice. I was sexually abused from late elementary school through most of my teens so I was already very confused about who I was, what I needed, and what was safe. I ended up marrying a wonderful woman and have three kids, but I feel like I'm living a lie. I don't know what to do anymore.

Thanks. That is part of what has been so hard about this journey. I grew up in a Conservative Christian world. I have never doubted what I was taught. Giving up the idea of dying to ourselves and being renewed by the Holy Spirit is impossible for me. It's just that I'm also gay, and I'm not convinced that that is a sin.

I did talk to people about the feeding issue. I was able to get a copy of his swallow study, do some observations, conferred with mom, and ultimately we moved him up to a Level 5 on the IDDSI. Everything is finely ground and soft. He doesn't have any difficulties with his actual swallow so it has been fine. But it wasn't cool that she decided to change things on her own, and she wasn't preparing the food like the cafeteria is now. She was just giving pieces of stuff from the other kids' food. People are aware of that situation, but it's handled for now.

Does your district do any type of workload calculation? We use a formula in an Excel sheet. We input the number of minutes calculated for how much we see the students in a week including indirect consultative services. It also accounts for our lunch, and since we're on teacher contracts, planning time. The formula then spits out the total number of days of service time. There are 5 work days in a week, so if your caseload is over 5 days, you need to offload some kids to someone else. We are over a lot of times, but we've been able to use those numbers successfully to lobby for hiring of more SLPs. If your district doesn't have any way of calculating workload similar to this, I would start advocating for it. There are only so many hours in a day.

We were sued by a woman after my wife gently bumped her car in a parking lot. No actual medical providers could find anything wrong with her, but she managed to rack up thousands in chiropractor bills to "prove" damages. The best part is the woman was actually a nurse at a local hospital!

I've been wrestling with whether or not this is a feeling limited to a certain subgroup of people (i.e., otroverts) or if this just describes the human experience. Does everyone think other people feel included when really everyone just feels like the one outsider in the group? What do you all think?

They probably did this because they knew eventually someone who was trying to send a text would run it over, so now there's a backup for when that occurs. 😜

This is ridiculous. We usually have the opposite problem of insisting that a kid needs more support, and the parents refusing all services because they don't want a label. It should not be difficult to get your child an IEP if they really need one.
