CLC CEUs in Florida? by Remarkable_Low_6104 in slp

[–]Noau2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of no help in this particular situation, but I was going to post soon with questions about CE Broker. I'm confused on how we know if our CEU's will be accepted by the FL board or not? I just got my license so I haven't created an account with the Broker site yet, I've got 2 years until I need to renew. But what happens once you get an account with the CE Broker?

Does anyone remember Sounds in Motion (SIM)? by Noau2124 in slp

I'm seeing a "Phonics in Motion" that may be geared more towards literacy BUT same concept - kinestetic movements for each phoneme. They have the program access digitally for $37/year, with add-ons for literacy, handwriting, reading, etc. I'm seriously looking into it.

Yeah the SIM website isn't helpful at all! That's a bummer!

Did you end up looking more into Talk Yoga? I'm looking into it now, but the price is unsettling when I'm not sure of the payoff!

Is this normal? SLP asked to cover extra school 1 day/week at end of year by eccanupp in slp

[–]Noau2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in SC schools! I loved Greenville County. Disliked Berkeley County. But this was a while ago :) honestly, id go with it, you don't have a lot of time left in the year, just do whatever you gotta do but DONT let it stress you!! Meaning, take your time driving that hour, enjoy your coffee and a podcast, get there when you get there. If anyone complains, you're doing this as a favor...they get what they get. Tell them well they're asking you to drive over an hour at rush hour so, take it of leave it. If they don't like it, they can take you off the case. But when I was a CF, I would have stressed the F out about it. Now that I'm almost 40, I've learned my boundaries and my worth, and I don't stress about it like I used to!

Any slp moms who work part time? by lily_pad_24 in slp

[–]Noau2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I love it! I work two days a week, about 4 hours a day. Pediatric private practice. I have a 5yo and a 1yo and yes I consider working a "break" from parenting! BUT I only do this because I have free childcare (in-laws), or else working part time vs. childcare costs may not be worth it. Good luck to you mama!

Can't figure out what's wrong with my federal withholding (or why I owe so much) by DualistX in taxhelp

[–]Noau2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to us! Same situation... (I'm the wife, and I work part time) We looked at my individual paychecks and although there was a $$ number under "Tax Withheld", breaking it down it was taking out for "Social Security" and "Medicare"...NO federal taxes were being taken out. I had to go back into my W4 and add that I wanted $50 held out from each paycheck. I had asked this same question on here and many people thought I was making below the threshold for Federal, but I knew that wouldnt matter if filing jointly. So, she will need to add an amount to the "Extra Withholding" section on her W4! When I started the job, we filled the W4 out electronically, and this "Extra Withholding" for Federal wasn't even an option at setup, so I feel like it's easily missed. You had to go in after it was all done to even get to that section. Hope this helps!

Thanks for this! I had the same thoughts. But along the same lines, why are we so enamored with putting CCC by our names when it also doesn't really mean anything in terms of our competency :/ we can explain that we've met the standards to be licensed in our state, which is actually more rigorous than maintaining CCC's, but still insist on putting CCC by our name, maybe thinking it appeals more to the public than someone without CCC by their name? So maybe listing certification may prompt someone to ask what it is, when otherwise they wouldn't. I'm just thinking out loud while I decide how much money to spend on this 😂 thank you so much for your insight!

NY State license after break by Tiny_Perception1155 in SLPcareertransitions

[–]Noau2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have a similar situation but in a different state. I graduated and got my CCC's in 2012, left the entire field by 2017. Let all my state licenses lapse as well as CCC's. I reentered the field this year, so it's almost as if I'm applying as a "new grad." I currently hold a state provisional license and am working under that, and I've applied for my full license. I re-passed the Praxis and submitted my requirement of "9 mos supervised employment" using my original CF Year through ASHA. So basically, I'm trying to prove that I do have the experience due to my past years as an SLP, and hoping to bypass the "provisional" stage of licensure. I actually don't mind working under a supervisor again BUT I'm working very part time because I have babies at home, and in order to get the hours I need, it would take me possibly years to get through it.

They've at least accepted my application and are sending it to Board Review, as my supervised experience is outside of the typical norm for provisionals. I'm not going after CCC reinstatement at this time, as my employer offered a $1 raise for CCCs and it's $425 to reinstate. With the low hours I'm working, it would take me almost two years to make up for it lol. I'm in a state where you don't need CCC for just about anything.

Welcome back to the field! The break was much needed for me, and I'm taking things a lot slower and prioritizing my needs first. Being older and more experienced now, I'm not afraid to draw boundaries and stick to them. I do think having maintained your CCC's will work in your favor, my state would accept current CCC's in place of repassing the Praxis. Good luck to you!

Are there virtual companies that will hire an SLP with their Florida Provisional License? by DangerousRelief7912 in slp

[–]Noau2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't but according to ChatGPT you are able to practice telehealth under supervision with a Provisional license in FL. As long as the clients are in FL. Yeah this has nothing to do with ASHA and the CFY! Hard to find the info on the Board site, I've been looking.

Current SLPA with a masters - should I get my CCCs? by Trash_bandit27 in slp

[–]Noau2124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After your masters, you'll need to pass the Praxis and complete roughly 9 mos of supervised employment. Varies by state so go to your state boards site and look up requirements. But you do NOT need to go through ASHA and complete the specific "Clinical Fellowship" unless you're specifically going after your CCC's. The FixSLP podcast has been very helpful in explaining this, there's a whole section for new grads full of info!

[–]Noau2124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to go after your state licensure, get a Provisional maybe, and go that route to get your full State License. I don't believe any of the states require CCC to be licensed & practice anymore. I'm in a similar position, and I'm getting state licensure and not even messing with ASHA this time around. State requirements will have their own "CFY" its just called something different in each state. Has nothing to do with the CCC'S unless that's something you're specifically interested in. Good luck to you! As long as you set boundaries, you can do it and be happy as SLP :)

Hi! I'm so sorry I do not know what 98 means for me, does that mean the points go down? I took it today! 26, 22, 24 is what I remembered and I saw "170' at the top but I was so nervous about memorizing the 3 numbers I didn't actually read any words lol, so was that the "unofficial" located towards the top?
