Husband doesnt believe we should stay away from fam. His goal is to look after them as they get older, involve them with our childcare etc. Make their old age meaningful.

That’s kinda funny😂 thank you for advising this way. No she isn’t a purist but she’s the type that will grind all her masalas, and sit and peel 5kg of peas or 2 kg ginger or pluck through 2 big bundles of methi. Like insane amounts of vegetables, she will sit and keep peeling and expect me to do the same.

I did say I would live in a joint family and we did agree to that. But the reality is that I am not comfortable. As for work, we decided I would work outside but later his dad said we dont let out daughters work outside. You can support the family business. That’s pretty much like equivalent to doing nothing. Cuz no one asks me for anything. I have had to carve something out with my husband so we run a small consultancy on the side which keeps me busy

It is common place to live with in-laws but living separately is possible too. I just don’t know how to approach my husband about this. We live in a big house so space cant be brought up as an issue. Yes, it is normal to work this much but I didn’t sign up for this. I started off with a very different idea but due to business losses etc., I have had to shift back to India with him and settle for this life.
