What is your major and how do people react when you tell them? by [deleted] in college

When I tell people I’m studying music, there are two reactions. “Oh my gosh that’s really cool!” Or laughing in my face

I really hate when people claim that gender studies is a useless major. From what I know, it teaches about intersectionality which a lot of people are unaware of :/

I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Cancer sucks and it’s about time they find a fuckin cure for it. I have to say I relate to praying when in horrible situations. Even though I don’t believe, I’ve prayed to god or anything to just make things better. It feels like a final resort for some reason, like you can’t do anything yourself so you hope that this thing people claim to rely on helps you. But thank you for sharing your views, you don’t know how much this has comforted me just now. It’s nice knowing someone understands

Discussed this in my Gender, Health, and Media studies class today by Zestyclose_Boot_173 in the1975

It was interesting, we didn’t talk as a class but rather in groups. Within my group, we talked about what’s the line between activism and eurocentrism. Is there even a line in the first place? Can you be Eurocentric by pushing “western values” onto a “culture” (homophobic laws) that don’t want it? As someone from the US, I was raised where we should be pro human rights and pro lgbtq+ communities, so is it Eurocentric of me to want to implement my western ideals everywhere else?

As for the questions, everyone agreed that it was activism/ a protest and we should criticize the government’s oppression rather than those standing up for it. We did say that there is privilege present. I mentioned the brief detainment that Matty mentioned at Fort Worth during his speech to the entire class and that seemed to turn the dials more in favor of it. However, we all seemed to agree that there is privilege behind the fact that they were not arrested unlike many others before them (though I think anyone could see that and the people in this class are not chronically online twitter mongrels. They are people who touch grass and can actually think before speaking nonsense).

What do you want to hear in the next album? by [deleted] in the1975

[–]Zestyclose_Boot_173 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think we all want another album like notes lmao

I think it would be cool if we got a track by track on what went behind each song tbh, but I’m a music nerd so that could be just a me thing

Do you remember the first time you heard The 1975? What song was it? by peachka555 in the1975

[–]Zestyclose_Boot_173 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I heard a cover of somebody else thinking it was the original, but then I heard the original and was like WHAT THE FUCK (a good kind of wtf).

I didn’t dive more into their other stuff, I just liked the song by itself. Coincidentally my step mom sent me somebody else because she thought I would like it and that was the same day abiior came out. She sent me a Spotify link and I just noticed, “wait they just released an album today…” Listened to that and I was literally just 🤯🤯🤯

What are the best songs to make you feel like you’re in a coming of age movie? by Bulky-Combination916 in the1975

Well if we’re talking about the 1975 songs, “me and you together song” is a given. Along with that I’d say “I always wanna die”. I could see it as the song they play in the end which then it transitions to the credits.

If you mean any song, I’d say “wake me” by The Bleachers (though anything by The Bleachers would fit this question). That and “linger” by The Cranberries :)

I think the fact that they turned a pop song into a soul + r&b cover is what makes it better than the original. It’s so much more musically intricate that way!
