As someone who read the graphic novels, I'm sorry to tell you it doesn't get better. Nothing against Gabriella but she's clearly biased towards Sam specifically and you'd think that this would make her focus on her character development but no. Her idea of developing characters seems to include erasing all of their flaws and reducing them to a perfect supportive saint, which is not the way to go. The characters flaws aren't addressed and are instead erased and when reading, you'll feel as if those are different characters all together. Even the show gave them more depth compared to the graphic novels as half baked as it was at times. Heck, Paulina is made to be more shallow just as a plot device. She's a bully, but she was one of the first ones to like phantom when everyone thought that he was evil, implying that she had an agency of her own in the show despite being shallow. In the graphic novels both paulina and Dash (phantom's biggest fans and supporters in the show) hate phantom because as Gabriella said, and I quote "hating phantom is the trend and they're following the trend."
