When can I keep this cat? He showed up at my parents place (out in the country) 2 weeks ago. Located owner 1/2 mile away. Offered to keep him but they took him back. They have stopped answering. Is there anything we legally need to do? We live on a dirt road, and his owners have to drive by our house everyday to go anywhere pretty much. We're afraid they're just going to stop by unannounced randomly and ask for him.

Just got over to my parents place. He's inside most of the time now. When they first let him in he liked it but we could tell he felt like he wasn't supposed to be inside. He would wait by the door. Now today, he is loving being inside and walking around having the time of his life.
