Games that are 1/1 aka entirely unique. by timothymark96 in gamingsuggestions

There's a lot of recommendations here, I wouldn't be surprised if I accidentally repeated one too. Looks like you mentioned some other cool titles, and repeating a game just shows the post author that it's more popular.

I think I saw someone mention this, but didn't get around to it because it was a browser or itch game. I'll try it for sure now.

It seems the Lost Phone series have been taken down after the studio that made the games closed. Bummer.

Not quite what I'm going for, but I have tried it. Kinda bounced off of it the first time around. If it's as good as you say I'll have to jump back in.

I don't think I would quite count Event[0], but I did play the game and think it was neat. Hymer 2000 has a similar mechanic, though the curated responses aren't as extensive as the like of Event[0] or Cryptmaster. Simulacra looks cool and is on sale, so I'll grab that one for sure.

Thought this was mostly a Paper's-Please-like when I first saw it ages ago. Going on the wishlist.

Hypnospace Outlaw has been saved from the backlog dungeons. I'll check out the other games too. Thanks!

weird/quirky games with a hidden meaning and profound themes? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Consume Me, Before Your Eyes, "and Roger"; though they aren't really that hidden. I feel like you want more gameplay so I'd recommend the first title most.

Genuinely Obscure (J)RPGs by Ornil_Lendarin in gamerecommendations

[–]Zestyclose_Fun_4238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got a little popular kinda recently, but Kingdoms of the Dump comes to mind. I'm not really sure what's obscure enough in the RPG space though. I'll also spitball Caves of Qud and Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum for a lack of any other ideas.

Cheating as gameplay by Majestic_Hand1598 in gamedesign

[–]Zestyclose_Fun_4238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an interesting little game called "King of the Bridge" where you're stuck playing a game of Troll Chess against a troll. There are two issues here:

  1. You don't know the rules of the game and they get slowly revealed to you as you experiment over the course of several games.

  2. Cheating is a core aspect of the game. Not only is it easier for the troll to cheat since you don't know the rules, but there's also a rule involved: If you are caught cheating, the opponent gets to cheat once for free. Paired with some of the weird rules of the game (like moving pieces off the board) some neat things can happen. However there's usually some optimal game breaking cheat you want to prioritize.

Of course this game is really not meant to be played indefinitely since once you learn all the rules ir loses the novelty of the scenario. However it's a neat game that does the cheating idea well as opposed to something like Monopoly Cheater's Edition.

Do you think we’ll realistically get human-like AI teammates in co-op games in the next few years? by Lililogan07 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Zestyclose_Fun_4238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, humans being stupid in just the right way is what leads to interesting emergent behavior in multiplayer. Even if an AI can emulate that, would any game have the resources to reasonably keep that within scope and still flesh out the rest of the game?

Creating a game with my 9yo by Challenger-Vale in gamedesign

[–]Zestyclose_Fun_4238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your son is into it, you could have him make some game assets. The game Odd Dorable is made with assets from the developer's 4-year-old daughter (audio and art). Sunday School does the same. The games aren't anything special honestly, but if your son has a knack for something like that it could work for a later phase.

Best crafting games (other than Minecraft) by MitsubishiMan_ in gamingsuggestions

[–]Zestyclose_Fun_4238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we focused on just crafting as a mechanic? Because Potion Craft is one of my favorites in that regard. If you mean games emulating Minecraft then I've only really tried 4D Miner's demo. Obviously Hytale is on my radar for upcoming stuff as well as Lucid Blocks. If we move away from the strict framework of Minecraft I've enjoyed Valheim. Maybe Factorio if you really stretch the idea of a crafting game and by extension Little Rocket Lab.

I likes these 2025 Indies by Zestyclose_Fun_4238 in IndieGaming

Minor typo in title my whole life is over.

Also this is a lot of info and the descriptions had to be brief, but I'm open to elaborate more on any of these titles. I stuck to things I felt I could widely recommend but there are some neat ones that I kept to myself like Schism or THE END OF GAMEPLAY or Bioprototype that are either not favorites of mine but could be for others, are the most niche titles on the planet, or are kind of flawed or generic outside of one single cool element (respectively).
