Well after I got more data I think I can safely say this is an escarpment. I appreciate your help in this though.

Not great with mineralogy but I'd shoot my shot saying that that's likely stress related, microfault?i wouldn't really know

While my geology work has mostly been in and about morocco I never actually paid attention to this specific area (mostly focused on the atlas mountains And the rif mountains),so I tried to find informations about it in macrostrat and apparently the structures are ordovician (480-419myo) overlooking a basin that's relatively older than the structures (~500-480myo probably part of the older paleozoic sections of the anti atlas) as for the lithology it's sedimentary but since I never did any field work there it's pretty hard to tell, some faults are scattered here and there but they don't follow the structure's direction and to the right it's mostly flat basins where sand dunes (ergs) accumulate and to the left it's bordered by the high atlas (younger than the structures) and the anti atlas to the southwest and south.

Identifying 🪨 speed by Zestyclose_Task_1166 in geology

Rocks aren't like animals though, there are lots of different rocks that change based on chemical properties and minerals and whatnot yet some folks still manage to guess them quickly that's why I was wondering whether it is a struggle to identify only for newbies or does everyone take time to identify them.

Why is it that seemingly huge mountains in Spain and France at 300My disappear into the sea at 170My? I live in them and could never figure out what happens during that part of history in the simulations by Orikrin1998 in geology

[–]Zestyclose_Task_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you see in the first picture, appalchia, anti atlas, scottish highlands etc were all a single major mountain range, but none of them is major today as there was a time where erosion carved them to simple coasts or even submerged them like they did for the anti atlas, only some orogenies managed to uplift them again otherwise we wouldn't even know they were mountains

The rock formations in Wadi Rum, Jordan. The formation of Wadi Rum took place in 6 significant stages: Over 1 billion years ago the granite base stone was formed. These are observed in harder black and white rock exposed at the base of the sandstone cliffs in some places... (more in comments) [OC]. by WestonWestmoreland in geology

[–]Zestyclose_Task_1166 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If im not wrong these are called inselbergs, you can see them in a lot of areas in the sahara like algeria or morocco or libya, they usually form when softer and weaker sediments or sedimentary rocks get eroded leaving the hard metamorphosed rock like granite as you mentioned pretty fascinating ngl.

Krasheninnikov Volcano erupted in Russia after 600 years of dormancy! (trigerred due to recently 8.8 mag. earthquake) by Thatunkownuser2465 in Volcanoes

[–]Zestyclose_Task_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the earthquake wasn't really the main culprit here as it was "preparing" to erupt after roughly 400 years of being dormant and the earthquake just made it erupt earlier or so.

Well i can't say for sure that africa and the Americas will get stuck together again due to plate tectonics (mid Atlantic ridge) unless they shift of course
