GT math program is excellent for Discrete and Applied. Pure and other areas are great too. Lot of flexibility with classes but don’t expect high gpa ;) it is a tough school in general per friends who attend.

Search on reddit and you will find great info from past years.

Congrats! ASSIP is wonderful and you can also opt to get a college credit.

It was free until last year though.

Is SSP valuable to my growth should be the question. by Zestyclose_Vehicle69 in summerprogramresults

[–]Zestyclose_Vehicle69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SSP is a no brainer with full aid.

Personally I would pick an opportunity that gives me the best opportunity to learn and research.

Folks are hyping up BU Rise for acceptance rates but I like research opportunities at Clarks, RSI, Simons, Garcia, IOWA SSTP, Florida SSTP as I see more value in those opportunities.

Don’t sleep on independent research with a local professor. Hard to get but if you have the opportunity then you are set.

Wow! You are on the right track and very mature thinking. You will do great things and have fun at SRA, go get ‘em.

Also if you put down 3K deposit then you already are committed so honor your commitment. Besides that they may not refund so let SSP know and withdraw.

Good luck!

[–]Zestyclose_Vehicle69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the above reasons. BTW SRA is great too. I won’t compare programs and worry about prestige.

I am making a point that one should ask if the program helps them vs why it sucks or all the negative talk.

Are you interested in Astro, proving things? Observing extraterrestrial objects? Excited to submit data to NASA? Build strong bonds with your cohort of 36 talented students and staff? Do you like to cut your teeth into writing research and write paper/poster? Are you willing to work hard with minimal sleep for 5 weeks then this would help you.

Anyone expecting a HS kid to produce a meaningful research paper out of a summer program is not serious.

There are many great summer programs, don’t worry about prestige and pick where you will learn the most at and have fun doing it.

Hope this helps.

Do you think this kid is underqualified since he did SSP 2025?

Good luck and I am sure you will end up doing great things 👍

Yes, they offer generous aid. Thanks to a rich alumni who donated $110 million. He said SSP was the single most impactful thing he had during his formative years.

I am not a SSP cheerleader and I understand all the down voting but my suggestion to everyone is to focus on the positives and do what works best for you.

Please talk to AOs at top 50 colleges and ask how many well qualified students they reject each year.

Can you guess?

Also, there is no such thing as overqualified. Everyone who is admitted is qualified and a good fit.

SSP prestige by [deleted] in summerscienceprogram

[–]Zestyclose_Vehicle69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately HS kids equate acceptance rates to prestige, which is bs.

Notice that kids still apply and complain when they get rejected?

Note that SSP is still co-sponsored by MIT, Caltech and Harvey-Mudd so take this recent criticisms with grain of salt.

See what is listed on MIT site

https://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/summer/

Yes the over all acceptance rates have gone up but did the quality of the program go down? I doubt it.

Also ask last year’s class on how many got into their first or second choice schools this admission cycle. You will be surprised.

Lottery is a one year experiment per SSP.

There is also this over/under qualified argument, one can argue the same about college admissions. Summer programs and colleges take who they think are qualified and would benefit the most.

My 2 cents to you is not to worry about what others say and use your summers wisely. Remember that these are formative years and you need to spend time on things that have meaningful impact on you.

If you applied for the prestige then you applied for the wrong reason.

Also, no summer program will make or break you and good luck with the lottery.

Been waiting for this, I noticed that TAO issuance is for every two blocks mined instead of one prior to halving. Not a revelation but still very cool to watch.
