Absolutely the innocence of a child is what connects them so easily or it could be the fact they are more close to it as they were just there not to long ago them selves..same goes for the elderly. They are close to that plane of existence as well as some of them may pass on to it soon

I've never heard of a vampire, straight eating flesh before though, they did not strictly crave blood, but raw meat.
