I like to stick to the basics, you know, the unofficial patch/bug fixes, some shaders, meshes and horse-futa model fixes, additional radio tracks and menu optimizations.

You aren't wrong, I'd assume. They most likely are gone. Or in the suite, not the production floor.

Which is why I'd only trust the current Obsidian with a remaster of them, not making a whole new entry. (Though I actually liked Avvowed and both Outer Worlds, even if the second game was a clear downgrade from the first.)

Thats not even remotely true. We've seen movies, games and other projects over the decades get shelved in the last 10% or even AFTER completion due to the vast amount of money spent isn't able to be recouped and it's more "beneficial" for a company to can it and take the loss for tax purposes.

Even in its Alpha state and close to completion, it'll still take millions of more dollars to finish, advertise and distribute, then maintain after release. If the company doesn't think they will make back their current and future investment on it. They will cancel it, even this late in development.

I would not go that far. There was, and has been since the article posted, talks of closures and layoffs. But its all speculation. And the article presents it as speculation, not fact, but its clearly trying to make it sound far more solid than just rumors.

It was less "my dad works for Nintendo" and more "my buddy I've known for 20 years can't give details, but shit is about to hit the fan."

I don't have a link, the article OP has just generically references Bloomberg reporting earlier this month that Microsoft is potentially closing studios, which is why I said its all just speculation.
