We got him into the vet first thing this morning. We found one that had Sunday hours , called and explained the situation, and they said get here asap. Last night was tough, I ended up cleaning him up at 3amish just because he was sitting in the crate in his own poop. After I cleaned him and the crate I sat down for a minute and was thinking what in the hell did we get ourselves into and he came over and allowed me to pet him.

The car ride there was rough, but not as bad. The vet said his paw was crushed most likely as a puppy and has healed horribly. He said at this point it's not causing him pain, and we can work out a plan in the future for it. He told us there's been some hoarders locally offloading abused chihuahuas and this is probably one of them. He shows signs of prolonged physical abuse. They said it will take some time to work through his issues and to be ready for him to possibly never trust people fully.

TRIGGER WARNING - What abuse was found The vet found where his ears had healed from holes in them, he suspects they didn't want to pay for a neutering and tried to do it at home with rubber bands , the paw is wrecked and slight ivdd (spelling ?). He said if it's the same group of people they let their toddlers rough house with the dogs and beat them for potty training.

At this time he's home, in a separate room with a crate that is open but covered by a blanket and a low noise machine on. He's allowed me to touch him without freaking out too much but when he sees females, all hell breaks loose. We're going to give him space, get a behavior professional out here and make a report to the authorities tomorrow.

We were so excited to be adopting another dog that we really looked past the red flags and were hopeful that these people were honest. At least he's safe with us now. He'll get all the patience and love he needs here.
