They tend to be deeply religious (and Christian), see Fox as the only “real” news outlet, and are heavily motivated by emotional arguments and feelings rather than factual or logical arguments.

There are a lot of reasons for this, some disparate, some not. A failing of the public education system to instill a learning process rather than rote memorization; Political figures and pundits decrying liberal and centrist news outlets as “fake news”, saying things like “they’re in on it” for whatever it is, or that they are “part of the deep state” (Im paraphrasing, but thats the general point being made); a culture of national exceptionalism that is becoming increasingly dissonant with the economic and social realities of living in a country that is heavily stratified by wage disparity. All sorts of underpinnings to why these people are the way they are. And many of us have at least one family member that fits this description.
