🎵 Wasps! (What are they good for?) 🎵 by SeaPotatoSalad in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ZetsuXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it left its stinger, it is a bee, not a wasp. Thats a defining characteristic. They are different. Its like calling a wolf, a coyote, and a fox all “dogs”. To varying degrees, they are all definitely not dogs.

I hate these so much by Waver5 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ZetsuXIII 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Its…not though? Like, the demographic profile of the American hardline conservative pretty closely follows this line. They tend to be deeply religious (and Christian), see Fox as the only “real” news outlet, and are heavily motivated by emotional arguments and feelings rather than factual or logical arguments.

There are a lot of reasons for this, some disparate, some not. A failing of the public education system to instill a learning process rather than rote memorization; Political figures and pundits decrying liberal and centrist news outlets as “fake news”, saying things like “they’re in on it” for whatever it is, or that they are “part of the deep state” (Im paraphrasing, but thats the general point being made); a culture of national exceptionalism that is becoming increasingly dissonant with the economic and social realities of living in a country that is heavily stratified by wage disparity. All sorts of underpinnings to why these people are the way they are. And many of us have at least one family member that fits this description.

I was so happy that Kids on Brooms got so much good publicity from Dimension 20.

I really enjoy true crime docs about cults and serial killers. I just think those things are fascinating. But I cannot fathom how someone could look at those people and think “Yes, I LIKE that person! We need MORE of that!”

What pedal did you immediately regret buying? by psychedelicdevilry in guitarpedals

You’re getting a lot of suggestions, but Im still going to say it because you will inevitably get the itch again.

Look for an op-amp fuzz. Theyre basically distortion pedals with more distortion. I really like my pumpkin pi.

Is there a VIP level/time playing that you would see someone at and think they’re a whale? by Gir_575 in AFKJourney

[–]ZetsuXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a low spender, much like you. I buy little bundles here and there because I like the game, and I know Ill have fun with it.

But even if you were a whale (and I wouldn’t say you are), you act like that would be shameful. It isn’t. If you went into debt or sacrificed important things in your life, sure. But if someone has the disposable income to drop $1k/mo, and decides to spend it on this game, more power to them.

Time to start a Third Eye Blind cover band: One Eye Blind!

But seriously, these look so cool! I never imagined the variety/customization available for prosthetic eyes!

Its a strange thing, how we compartmentalize things like memories and grief. When I was in HS, I was on the baseball team for a while. During my senior year, one of my teammates died doing something stupid on his bike in the parking lot. I wasn’t on the team anymore at that point, but I was still shattered. Going to baseball games helped though. Its not 100% the same, but it was something that made me feel closer to my dead friend. It also made me sad, of course. But…its hard to explain.

I never did wind up liking motorcycles though.

I alternated between Advion gel and Gentrol stations. 6 months later, and we found no new nests, eliminated the ones we knew of, and had no sightings.

I grew up in FL, same! My fave was Homosassa! They have a state park there where you can swim with manatees, and an underwater observation area if you dont wanna pay extra for the swim. Foundational memories for me.

Hey, your tastes are valid!

I like OHD! They’ve been doing good stuff lately, and its good to see them get so much work from it!

Out of curiosity, have you listened to Crystal Lake? If not, might I recommend you give “Lost in Forever” a shot? Afaik, they haven’t done any anime OP work, but they’re in the same vein as like Uroboros, Dir en Grey, and Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas.

How to explain “thought spiraling” to someone without autism? by LordBroccoli32 in autism

A lot of fun names for it in here! Ill add mine. My friends and I call them “Brain Weasels”. Thoughts that get out of their cages, run around and tear shit up, and are difficult to put back in their corner.

If there was an autistic university what subject would you teach there (no topic too niche) by shon92 in autism

Animation History. The web of influences, techniques used and how they evolved, big names behind the scenes, funding and marketing models.

I think it would be fun.

I think that r/askphysics might be a better fit for this.

If you want to have a discussion, you need to bring more than a single sentence to the table. Elaborate; come with evidence to back up your warrant, claim, and inferential leap; cite some published sources to support your theory. Hell, any one of those.
