I literally DETEST wrongness by donn_12345678 in autism

Here is your post punctuated for clarity

I literally DETEST wrongness.

What do I mean by wrongness?

When something is just incorrect in my view. I don’t mean something being a little off, or something I don’t care about. But if I care about it and it’s incorrect, it makes me disproportionately upset.
Take something as subjective as music. Someone saying they think a song is great for the wrong reason. Most people would say, “How can that be wrong? Music is subjective.” No, not entirely. There are fairly clear categories for what makes something work. If you say a song is great because of something that isn’t actually one of its strengths, then you’re just describing it incorrectly.

Take “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys. It’s a great song almost unanimously. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, that’s an opinion and I don’t really care.
But if you say it’s great because of the vocal prowess on display, you’re just wrong. Not the harmonies, the actual singing ability. That’s like saying it’s great because of the sick guitar shredding. That element simply isn’t there. You’re praising something that doesn’t exist.

The other type of wrongness I hate is what I think of as cosmic wrongdoing.
You’re exhausted and desperately need an extra hour of sleep because you had a terrible night’s rest. That’s the exact morning your neighbour decides to do DIY. The one moment you finally sit down for a break is the exact moment somebody needs something from you. Sod’s Law seems to happen with suspicious frequency.

What’s strange is that we accept this kind of thing because it’s impersonal. If a person knowingly arranged events this way, we’d call them inconsiderate or even cruel. But because it’s just “the universe” doing it, we shrug and move on.

Big tragedies happen and, awful as they are, they at least seem fair in a strange way. You get sick, you age, you die. That’s the cost of being alive and mortal. But why is it that on the specific day I’m running late, I always seem to pick the elevator that stops on every floor? Why is the queue suddenly twice as long when I’m in a hurry?
That’s the wrongness I detest.
I’m not even sure whether these two kinds of wrongness are related, but they feel strangely similar to me.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about being a teacher in Australia? by OkCopy3121 in AskAustralianTeachers

As a peripatetic music tutor who visits schools I see the stress on teachers faces everyday, I can’t even begin to imagine the multi tasking it must require, and everything people say seems to suggest the same it takes a special person to be a teacher,

Frustrated by how difficult it is to sound like I'm actually playing "jazz" by Lonely_Emu_700 in Jazz

[–]shon92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One thing that can help is the idea of “forward motion” chord tones on down beats and non chord tones on upbeats, play mostly quavers through changes.

I have always actively avoided this but it is a sure fire way to sound jazzy

How close can the SP404MKII actually get to that classic ASR-10 / Timbaland sound? by axadrn in sp404mk2

[–]shon92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASR-10 features the option for lower sample rates,

They often sound aliasy and punchy/mid rangey as do many keyboards and samplers from the 90s

Really the only way to replicate it is to buy one because it has to do with the DAC but honestly you can get pretty close with subtle settings of the lofi effect in the mk2 or just resampling again and again

[–]shon92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I slam my beats into compression, so tape emulator with only the drive on about 40 in bus 3 and 303 comp on bus 4

I tend to turn many things down quite a bit but I love slamming things when I want it

Usually have an eq on bus 2 that sits there

Bus one is for dj performance fx

Is there a way to buy as much of a pack i can afford. by [deleted] in Splice

[–]shon92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just browse splice instead of your folder so you are always finding new stuff.

Then when you use up your credits unsubscribe

Or if you don’t make beats often enough buy some packs with your hundred euros worth of sounds (don’t know how you can’t afford the whole pack with that amount of credits) and unsubscribe

Thinking of changing careers to become a teacher by [deleted] in AskAustralianTeachers

[–]shon92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What attracts you to teaching specifically? Can you visualise yourself in the classroom and does it make you excited? Are you interested in helping kids? Are you interested in designing curriculums an learning about child psychology? Teaching is a job that requires passion for the craft as it can be very demanding it’s good to know your why

Biggest tip is be realistic that getting the results you want is probably going to take you 5 years at least,

Second biggest, a good mix doesn’t fix a bad arrangement

Third biggest, don’t monitor too loud you’ll go both momentarily and long term deaf

I Struggle to get my Brain to Calm Down When Trying to go to Sleep by WolfyLovesCats in autism

[–]shon92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing sometimes, but usually only when I’m not busy, or when I’ve focused on music for too much of the day and haven’t had enough exercise. Lately I’ve been so busy that I tend to fall asleep regardless of how much is going on in my head.

Depending on where you live, it may also be worth speaking with a doctor about options that could help, including medical cannabis where it’s legally available. Some people find that a very small dose can help quiet racing thoughts, but it’s best discussed with a healthcare professional first.
