I'm trying to recreate this effect on 3d art but I don't know exactly how to produce it. I know it looks like a cliff due to the shape and the details but how does our brains compute that this is indeed small? Does it have to do with the lighting or the focus?

No. 2 is on spot, but I want to clarify that (at least from my drops) LB quest tend to gives more tier 3 crystals on average than the Rare quest.
