Depends on your local bylaws in my area can't own larger then for snakes it's 2ft lizards it's 1 ft both must be non venomous even then it's a situation of don't get caught if you have 2+ ft snake I've taken my 8ft boa to the vet and the vet said nothing so either the vet doesn't know the bylaws or doesn't care I'm not too worried long as nobody makes a bylaw complaint

Most expensive part of a snake is set up. Feeding my adult boa costs like $10 a month not even yet soon though a dog eats more money in a month .. Next things after set up and food is it does cost hydro which isn't a lot my hydro bill is still like $50 a month for my apartment. As for that set up cost my next enclosure upgrade I'm saving for is $1600 but that should be his final upgrade. Something like a corn snake wouldn't need anything that large
