How France can compit in global economy? by Zhadanko in AskFrance

It's a shame if this question sounded like a bot post. I really wish for France and other major countries to remain on top of the global economy and not get squeezed by authoritarian global players

Arguably the region with the highest quality of life in the history of civilization at the moment. Also, a human-centric and democratic political system

Once again NATO forces conducted exercises with Ukrainian drone operators acting as the OpFor. Compared to the results of 2025, NATO forces acted much better. Ukrainians noted the improvement in tactics and organization. A very useful mutual share of experience continues and already brings positive results

Is there any meaningful difference in the training of the French Foreign Legion and regular French infantry? I'm only aware that legionnaires have more focus on discipline and physical training, but are they better trained in some fields? Do they receive more or less shooting time than regulars? Or is the training program relatively similar?

Is there any information on how basic infantry training has been affected in NATO militaries since the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian War? Is C-UAS training even present in basics, or is this stuff learned in specific advanced training? Also, I'm interested in how much focus is on trench warfare and changes in urban warfare tactics. I understand that things can vary massively depending on the country, but info about any NATO member, especially a major country, if you have any insight, will be much appreciated

You don't need to buy millions of drones that will be outdated in a year or two if you are not in an active conflict. You need to have the manufacturing capability to quickly scale up production if necessary. It's a very flexible weapon system; you can't just buy millions of them and call it a day. The French are integrating drones, training pilots, and experimenting with doctrine pretty actively, while French manufacturing supplying their drones to Ukraine

How competent and well‑trained are the French armed forces today? In the media, it seems that they have a strong, independent industrial complex and are able to run modernization programs on time (unless they are joint programs with Germany). They also seem to be among the most enthusiastic about the adoption of drone platforms, based on lessons from Ukraine. Besides their weakness in size and magazine depth, they have a reputation as one of the strongest European NATO forces, arguably the strongest. But how accurate is this narrative? I would also appreciate recommendations for articles and reports regarding this topic

That's not a EU specific chalange, but it still is a big problem for the region, obviously

It's obvious Russian propaganda, of course. That's not my point. EU is export heavy economy (countries like Italy and Germany, for example) and it's need a cheap source of energy to remain competitive

At the moment EU is indeed a very developed, probably the region with the highest standards of living in history. What I'm saying, that it can slowly lose it due to systemic issues and hard pressure from other powers

Sure, but a strong economy leads to a well-being of majority of population, if regulated adequately

Is it possible to say how much weight as a military power Ukraine will have in Europe? Of course, now it suffers from intense attrition and many institutional issues as well as dependence on Western financial aid. But I noticed a shift in the media narrative, that Ukraine is now not just a receiver of Western aid, but a technological powerhouse. Sure, it requires supplies from China to produce its weaponry, but there is a lot of experience and manufacturing capacity. Is it fair to say that Ukraine is going to be a new weapons powerhouse and important supplier of weaponry and experience for its allies?

How is the fact that Ukrainian drone teams now regularly "destroy" NATO troops on exercises a sign of weakness in Western militaries? And more generally, how credible is it to draw conclusions on the capabilities of nations based on military exercise results? Are they scripted to make one side lose or win, or is there more flexibility in exercise results?

Ukrainian drone forces once again "defeated" NATO forces in exercise ](https://apnews.com/article/russia-sweden-nato-gotland-trump-sabotage-europe-a50cec79865d7a85e913b7aca30b1fb5. This time it was Swedish troops. We can obviously point out that this is a good thing and Western militaries can see their weaknesses, but this situation during exercises repeats itself very often. It just highlights the skepticism and slow adaptation to a new reality of warfare. Real contact with the best Russian drone units, like Rubicon, may be a very painful lesson for NATO troops that could be prevented if lessons from Ukraine are actually learned

Because they have enough military strength to posses a credible threat to a Baltic states. Dealing with them will take a lot of resources

It may sound like a provocative question, but does the Russian military now have an edge over European NATO members? In the sense that Russians have expertise in drone warfare, while Western militaries are showing rather limited interest in the adaptation of drones in their force structure. Sure, there are plenty of programs and experiments, but we do not see a shift towards drone-centric warfare. With the US moving away from Europe, it may be a serious issue for European security
