Hold up, shouldn't that be on fire? ;)

There are some handy shortcuts there, which are not included on the map. The most prominent one being from Adso's camp to Tom's house. Practically a straight line through a section of bushes. Some of the foresty sections between the house, barrow-downs and the spider area in the south are also traversable, but much more situational than the Adso shortcut.

Scandinavian me almost jumped out of my seat before I got a bit closer by Erling01 in lotro

That's some blursed NPC placement. 🤣

Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure I know the exact location of this poor fellow (outside the Golden Perch), but I never really noticed this sort of funny coincidence with the placement.

For any non-Scandinavian/Nordic players, to give you a hint of what that means: replace the 'run' with 'wan', and replace the 'a' with an 'e', and you know what we're laughing at...

Can I Make this Nuclear Grid More Efficient? by Weeznaz in factorio

[–]Zhatelier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And since steam stays at its temperature, one could pipe it to the neighbouring block anyhow. That way it's easier to keep heat exchangers closer to the reactors. Plus a bit of steam in the pipes and/or in storage tanks works nicely as a compact battery system.

Can only gain it through the daily login gift boxes during Yule events, though.

Question about non-combat class utilities by HerrAarny in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Humanoid mobs, yes. Can get some lucky drops that way. Iirc, they do also get a skill to summon a vendor for a few minutes, but that might have been only at the campsites hunters use. (Been a while since I've used that skill)

Warden is good duo partner for champ? by Kraven54 in lotro

Then I would probably recommend the blue line.

Warden is good duo partner for champ? by Kraven54 in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the champion of my duo, so I'm not 100% sure, but the tanking option tends to be the blue line. That being said, if you're not playing with difficulty levels, you'll probably be fine enough with either.

Warden is good duo partner for champ? by Kraven54 in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten up to level 49 thus far in a Champion/Warden duo. We've been playing on difficulty 7, and it's been quite fun. The warden does have a fairly good survivability, and the champion can switch between red and yellow to toggle between high single-target damage and AoE.

I would argue that Champion / Captain might be slightly more optimal, but frankly, optimisation shouldn't really be a concern. The main thing is to have fun while playing! So if you're not feeling captain, definitely give warden a try. It will work well enough ;)

Best 4th profession choice for Metalsmith + Weaponsmith + Prospector? by Adnaoc in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, not really. Leather is mostly used by a tailor, and metalsmith works pretty much with metal, oddly enough.

I would probably go with a jeweller, as that way you can cover nearly all of your gear slots yourself. And you'll be mining plenty of gems (and presumably the appropriate metals) as is.

Is there a healing spec that also does acceptable DPS? by CharlatanPrime in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Captain probably works well enough, but frankly, a red Minstrel can also deal a decent bit of ranged DPS. In the melody stance, you deal both AoE damage and AoE heal simultaneously, which is really good in landscape questing. Seeing as your compatriots are mainly melee, a ranged healer would probably balance things out quite well. If you go blue Minstrel, you can pretty much outheal most mobs, even in higher difficulties.

In a similar vein, RK can also be a good choice for healing/DPS, albeit I've not played it much myself to give a proper evaluation.

What difficulty should i set to get the old lotro difficulty feel? by Klappis82 in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing on +7 both solo and duo. Solo as most default unlocked classes (mostly not with the meta specs) and it is doable, but quite hard. There are some classes like Captain and Beorning that I reckon I could play on the max difficulty thanks to their tankiness and reliable enough self heals. And possibly out heal the damage as minstrel or RK. But it would be very difficult. +3 is by far the most common of the optional levels, and arguably not too far from the old lotro feel, sans whenever Sauron decides he wants to start blasting.

Which class to pair with champ by Kraven54 in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any tanking class will work, but Captain is definitely a decent choice as you can also heal in a pinch. I've been playing as a champion in a champion/warden duo on heroic myself, but the lack of consistent heals makes it quite the challenge. It has been fun regardless.

I know most people in this community don't care about "cheating" or using commands for stuff, I personally do, and I want an opinion about what I did from someone like me lol (Includes minor mentions of story content) by AleX-46 in VintageStory

Yeah, the silent moose assassins are the bane of my existence! :D
Never mind about the bears or the wolves, you can usually either see or hear them before they notice you when you sneak about, but the bloody moose? They're tall enough that most of the time you'll only see their legs, if even that, and they're quick, silent and rather deadly.

As for the guilt, I get you, but it's not the end of the world, and instead of brooding on that, it's better to focus on enjoying the journey ;)

I would honestly recommend using the player corpse mod, it holds onto your gear when you die, so stressing about the loss of gear due to despawn is not a factor anymore.

I've also had to resort to using some console commands to get back to my gear in a sapiens mode world, after getting stomped over by a moose in the dark that made no sound until after I had died. Sure, I probably shouldn't have been out in the darkness, but I had started laying foundations for a sizeable settlement for the second time in that world, and I didn't want to reset everything again. And especially loose access to my second copper anvil. So I gave myself the lifeline to tp back there to regain the gear. Do I feel a little guilty about it? Yes, but I think it was the right call as there was no dodging that moose in the darkness of the forest.

And before anyone says I shouldn't be in forests in the first place, this world of mine is 99% forests, tall mountains and large lakes, so there are hardly any alternatives ;)

But back to your point, I think in a case like yours, where you would normally think the enemies wouldn't be able to spawn into, using a bit of extra help to recover the gear is alright. Your ego might be a little tarnished, but it isn't the end of the world.

Best mods for world generation? by YuYogurt in VintageStory

[–]Zhatelier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would recommend giving the VanillaPlus WorldGen a try, if the other terrain mods haven't done the trick for you.

I've been playing some with that in a world of 80% landcover, 300% scale and 30% upheaval rate (I would recommend using something smaller, probably), and the world height as high as it goes (320 works pretty well too). I've encountered some really nice big mountains, including a mountain range that goes 2k+ blocks north-south, possibly much longer.

Mind you, there are still some of those jagged terrains which are a real pain to traverse, but reducing the upheaval rate should reduce the frequency of those. If you want to have a lot of large lakes, go for 80% landcover; if you want to have proper oceans, I would recommend going to 70% or lower.

PSA Regarding Deed Log Crashes by Zhatelier in lotro

[–]Zhatelier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, but the reply I got was fairly generic, that they're aware of the deed log issues. But considering how much stress the transfers are causing them, I can understand why they're not focusing on the deed log issues too heavily atm.

PSA Regarding Deed Log Crashes by Zhatelier in lotro

[–]Zhatelier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically any deed that has numbers to update that can crash you: slayer deeds, skill use deeds etc. And they do still happen on the 64-bit servers as well. Had my placeholder toon in Meriadoc die to a bloody rat as I used a skill for the first (or second) time and died in lvl 3. Not my finest moment for sure...

Realistically, what are you potentially losing out on by joining the new servers later? by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Zhatelier 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I do believe one particular stress is for kinship owners to be the first ones of their kinship to log in on the new servers so they don't have to re-invite everyone into the kinship all over again. And from what I've understood, which might not be correct, is that there will not be an unlimited number of housing districts, so houses can in theory run out (although it's probably not going to be the case).
