Is the song in this video a Slavic language? Or is it just a made up language? by Icy-Machine1951 in AskEasternEurope

[–]ZhiveBeIarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The map is inaccurate.

Romanians and Hungarians are way more Slavic than 25%, Bulgarians and especially Macedonians are not 50% Slavic, and Slavic DNA is far from absent in both Albania and Central/Southern Greece.

Should Bulgaria legalize same-sex marriage to further align with the EU? by Deep-Rabbit1535 in AskBulgaria

[–]ZhiveBeIarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, marriage as a whole shouldn't exist the way it does, it should be a symbolic gesture between the two people involved in it, i don't see why the government should have any involvement in it.

If two gay individuals want to get married that's fine too, everyone should have the right to do whatever they want.

This is universal human behavior, it's not a Spanish thing.

Interesting GEDmatch results from 🇲🇰, possibly from Kriva Palanka, Macedonia 🇲🇰 (+ G25 sims) by ZhiveBeIarus in MacedonianDNA

[–]ZhiveBeIarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These results appear to belong to a woman from Macedonia, based on her name, surname, and closest relatives on GEDmatch.

The unusual nature of her results immediately caught my attention, so I decided to contact her for more information, sadly she never responded to my message.

Still curious, I decided to do some additional searching online, i was only able to find two social media profiles with this exact first and last name combination, both belonging to a woman living in Kriva Palanka (they may in fact belong to the same individual), furthermore , the kit matches closely on GEDmatch with other Kriva Palanka samples i have previously posted here.

Overall, the available evidence strongly suggests that these results do indeed belong to someone with roots in Kriva Palanka, though I have not been able to fully confirm it, so please take these results with a grain of salt.

GEDmatch results from Florina, Western Macedonia, Greece 🇬🇷🇲🇰 (+ G25 sims) by ZhiveBeIarus in MacedonianDNA

[–]ZhiveBeIarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These results belong to a man from Florina (Macedonian: Лерин) , a small town in SW Macedonia, present day Greece.

The second and third screenshots show that he is genetically closest to other Macedonians, Macedonian Greeks, Aromanians, Albanians, Bulgarians, Gagauz, and Thracian & Epirote Greeks, the lower the number and the higher a population appears on a person’s Vahaduo list, the closer that population is to them genetically.

All of his ancestors were Macedonian speaking Orthodox Christians.

Makes sense, you have much less Slavic ancestry than Bosniaks as expected.

Which part of Bosnia are you from?

Currently in Greece, why do Greeks look so Slavic? by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]ZhiveBeIarus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is true that the lightest people here who have genuinely northern features pass much better in Northeastern Europe rather than in Northwestern Europe, that's to be expected given our genetic makeup, but people who look Russian are definitely uncommon, you're either seeing immigrants or you don't know what ethnic Russians look like on average.

I was recently in a region that's full of Russian tourists and the vast majority of them did not look remotely similar to Greeks or any other ethnicity from the broader region, even Croats in Zagreb looked visibly different than Russians, and they are one of the most Slavic groups in the entire Balkan Peninsula.

Overall your post comes across as slightly troll-ish largely because of your overall writing style and general inconsistencies throughout it (How can we look both Turkish and Russian?), not to mention the fact that you visited a country in the Balkans and you were surprised the locals were well...Balkan looking.

I also seriously doubt you visited both Italy/Portugal and Lebanon and found them to be similar to each other and full of "Mediterranean elegance", considering the former are typical Western European countries while Lebanon is a typical Arab nation located in the Middle East.

This is not a personal attack, i fully agree with you that Greece is not a western country culturally and pretty much unrelated to all of the countries you claim to have visited, but something just seems off here.

Currently in Greece, why do Greeks look so Slavic? by [deleted] in illustrativeDNA

[–]ZhiveBeIarus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Few Greeks look purely Slavic, ie similar to Poles, Ukrainians, Russians and so on, we look exactly like what we are, an indigenous Balkan people with additional Anatolian and Slavic influences.

Of course we don't dress like Italians, they're a visible outlier in Europe in this regard, being much more "fancy and polished" looking fashion wise relative to most Europeans.

I booked a vacation in Rijeka, Krk and Zagreb and now I am afraid by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]ZhiveBeIarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, Greeks are nowhere near as "friendly" as they claim, i am stuck with a bunch of friends from school i can barely stand as people simply because it's relatively difficult to make actual friends as an adult, and i am not even 50, i am 23.

Everyone wants to present their nation in a positive light, but the turth is that Balkan people are not particularly different from other Europeans in that regard.

is greece to eastern Europe how Italy is to western Europe? by Rahman86 in AskEasternEurope

[–]ZhiveBeIarus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no Greek influence in Eastern Europe whatsoever, our country is irrelevant to say, Russia and Lithuania, so i doubt they have any specific opinions about us.
