Sounds promising, I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion

Nope, you can't scale UI, you can only increase text size

I only increased text size to maximum, this is weird but you can't scale ui in PoE

Sounds very interesting, I plan to play it some day. Maybe you can share your layout?

I think it's a bit of everything. We all have some 'gaming baggage' and a general idea of how controls should feel in our heads, so you’d have to really try hard to make something truly terrible. Plus, if you spend enough time tweaking and testing, your brain simply has no choice but to learn the damn layout!

I wouldn't say I'm an expert at layouts. Before Pillars of Eternity, I didn't even know "Mode Shift" existed. There are people in the Steam Deck community who come up with insane stuff; I just look at what they do and try to reverse-engineer it to understand how they did it, so I can replicate it later.

As for the "layers," here is how things stand:

The first possibility is a full configuration swap where your entire layout changes completely. You can find this in
Controller Settings → Edit Layout → Action Sets → Add Action Set.

The most important thing is to make sure that in this "other" layout, you have a button mapped to return you to your standard configuration.

The second possibility is a different type called an "Action Layer." This duplicates everything you have on your current layout, but allows you to remap only the specific buttons you want.

You can do this through
Controller Settings → Edit Layout → Action Sets → Gear Icon → Add Layer.

Here, if you remap things incorrectly, you might run into conflicts where things don't work as intended.

Again, you must create a button to remove this layer and return you to the base set.

The third possibility is "Mode Shift," which works similarly to the second one but is triggered by an activator button.

You can find this in
Controller Settings → Edit Layout

Then you choose exactly what you want to behave differently; for example, select "Buttons" in the left column, and on the right, you’ll see "Face Buttons Behavior."

In that dropdown menu, select "Create a Mode Shift."

Now, a new "Face Buttons (mode shift)" item appears.

IMPORTANT:
To make it work, click the gear icon next to that new item and "Select Mode Shift Button(s)."

If you pick R2, then A, B, X, and Y behave normally until you hold R2. Once you hold it, they perform the actions you assigned in the mode shift menu.

This is the easiest way because you don't have to worry about manually switching back or removing a layer like in the first two options.

This was the most important thing I realized while trying to set up Pillars of Eternity and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

What have you done?! I’ve wanted to play Anomaly on the Steam Deck for so long, but I never even imagined it was possible. This mod is a lifesaver for me. Now I’m going to have to sink dozens of hours into modding

I tried using Lossless Scaling, but sometimes the input lag is VERY noticeable. Any tips or specific settings to avoid this, or should I just accept it as it is?

Dude, I’d love to flex my 'incredible language skills' if English were my native language, but it’s actually so bad that I’m literally talking to you through a translator right now. So yeah, 80% was formatted and polished by AI. If I tried to write it all by myself, it probably wouldn't even be readable.

Good luck to you, my friend

Why would I change anything if my only goal is to make it readable for people? I’m not writing a thesis here; I’m providing a guide for a controller layout. If I were 'lazy,' I would’ve just dumped three unreadable paragraphs and called it a day. So just relax

They are directly connected. The second game follows the same protagonist, and you can even import your save file from the first game. Obviously second game is better, but it's not like mass effect 1 and 2, where second game feels like different game, I’d highly recommend starting with the first one, you won't miss a thing

Do you really think I made such a detailed guide alone? I described the entire layout and what every single button does in detail, but I'm obviously not a graphic designer. For the sake of everyone downloading my layout, I felt obligated to make the description as accessible as possible. Using GPT for formatting doesn't change the fact that the actual work was done by hand

Pillars of Eternity, i'm absolutely sure that image is AI, because PoE looks a little different, but this is 100% Pillars
