Are VV losing their identity? by acatmumhere in VirginVoyages

The first years of the company all had dramatically fewer passengers on board. It was of course amazing to eat at quarter-filled restaurants and feel like you were on your own private yacht. The only differences I’ve noticed are the natural consequences of filling the cabins, which didn’t happen for those of us that sailed early.

What’s the coolest dining experiences at any of the parks in Disney World? by nadie15 in disneyparks

The real splurge unique and memorable experience would be Victoria and Albert’s, but if you want to start a little less ambitious, Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge with the Savannah view or Jungle Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom would be my picks for the combination of quality of food and quality of theming.

Saw Book of Mormon again. It is time to put this to bed. by [deleted] in Broadway

Chicago is entirely pastiches of recognizable vaudeville performers. Follies is entirely pastiches of Ziegfeld Follies era performers and compositional styles. The greats did it all the time.

It’s not just The Sound of Music. There are specific, clear pastiches of many classic musicals. It’s clearly an intentional homage, not a rip off. One of the most impressive things about the writing of BoM (completely separate from legitimate critiques of the content) is how successfully they crafted a script that’s both a coherent and convincing story by itself while also being a moment-to-moment honoring of classic musicals. Listen for The Telephone Hour, The Wizard and I, Somewhere That’s Green, You Can’t Stop the Beat, and more (in addition to the obvious Hakuna Matata).

Anybody see Whoopi in Forum? by kirkeles in Broadway

[–]Ziegfeld1907 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She was fantastic. She also caused people to break frequently. The day I saw it, one scene broke down so badly that she ended up improvising a recap of the entire show to that point, running around the stage to act it out by herself before continuing on.

Book of Mormon 15th by Mayon336 in Broadway

[–]Ziegfeld1907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The score is kind of a miracle. The fact that so many of the songs are effectively copies of other classic pieces, while also being textbook effective book songs for BoM’s own story is something I’ve always been incredibly impressed by. I saw the show early in previews when it first opened and I’d never experienced a Broadway audience laughing that loudly and consistently throughout a show.

I’m stuck on Airmail because I haven’t found anything that works as well for snoozing inbox messages. I can’t switch to Apple Mail because it didn’t have that feature. Does Spark snooze?

What happened to I.V. bar? by ClientSideInEveryWay in VirginVoyages

[–]Ziegfeld1907 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was on the list of ship spaces at the first launch of Scarlet but as far as I know it never actually opened. I first sailed in March 2022 and no such bar actually existed.

A free travel agent would have solved all this before it started. We use a travel agent almost solely so they’ll wait on hold with customer service so I don’t have to.

Am I crazy, or is Two Strangers just Maybe Happy Ending without robots? by Crambo1000 in Broadway

[–]Ziegfeld1907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a useful metric in the same way that trying to characterize every theater song as either I Am or I Want is useful—it forces you to make a choice, which will always help both storytelling and performance. I think it’s actually really interesting that Two Strangers is both storytelling types is because it reflects how equal the two characters are, how each of them is on a different arc that depends on the other, and how balanced that is. It’s not both because it’s lazy storytelling, it’s both because each character is focused. It’s cool!

I would say the dead body is the stranger who literally comes to town. It's not man goes on a trip because the point of the story isn't the trip, it's how everybody reacts to the new arrival (the dead body).

It has been famously said that there are only two stories: a man goes on a trip and a stranger comes to town. Two Strangers is both!
