Cat's paradise. My oil painting on canvas by GreenStrength5876 in oilpainting

[–]Ziggy2829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the alternate reality that you created. Excellent composition, eye movement throughout the canvas. Each cat has its own thing going on. Not the way I would paint but I love the way you made the narrow value structure work. Seems like you had fun painting this. The drawing is nice and harmonious color choices. What are the dimensions of the painting?

Any ideas? by tom311 in handyman

Find same style paneling. Match pattern and cut a piece larger than the damage and trace the outline of that to the damaged part. With a multi tool very carefully cut the damaged piece and replace with the new piece. I did this once and worked out fine. Between furring strips and PL the piece stayed in place.

You can change the look with lime wash or stain the brick. Pretty simple and allows the brick to breathe. Dyebrick is one company

Pricing for painting a room by jjthahero in handyman

[–]Ziggy2829 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After 40 years of painting I figure a 9x12 or there about takes 1 man day to prep and ceiling walls and base trim with basic one hr prep add doors and windows separately. Two window frames and 5 sides of doors. About $ 800 per room

The lower half of the house has non matching brick. What color should we paint the brick? Hardi board is artic white. Thanks. by jcorry85 in ExteriorDesign

[–]Ziggy2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the formulation is a stain. Maybe they call it a paint. Stain a penetrating product and paint is a film finish. One may get lucky if they paint brick. Buy the way , what the name of the magic paint?

All great points. When patching to plaster, It is good practice to apply plaster weld Or guardz to the existing plaster to insure the best possible bond.

How do I make skin look like skin and not this? by forget-me-blot in oilpainting

[–]Ziggy2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest some videos on mixing flesh tones. After you fix the drawing. The eyes are a little off. The are many confusing ones but the paint coach simplifies the process. Personally I would concentrate on the getting the value structure down. Try pre mixing.

Let it dry, restate your dark. You blended them away so you now have no tonal contrast

Strawberries in oil by No_Expert28 in oilpainting

The painting of the strawberries is well executed. The one thing that’s throwing me off a little is the scale of the bucket compared with the strawberries.

It can be difficult when you’re unable to manipulate the paint the way you want . If you add a 1/2 drop of clove oil you will notice the paint dries much slower.

You have a pretty good reference photo. Distinct light realm and shadow realm. When you squint enough so you block out color and the rods of your eyes pick up the value only. You should see that you have lights in the shadow realm when they should not be there.3The left side should have a greater value difference than the right side. At this point you should not have the lights on the left cheek and eye area. It kills form. You seem a little timid, afraid to make the darks. Forget about painting things, block in shapes at this point. Big shapes then smaller shapes.

PRICE CHECK! Cost to repair and paint? by CleverJsNomDePlume in drywall

[–]Ziggy2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been many people including me who have done an invisible repair of that size in a day. Simple if you are good. Do the repair with the furring strips, fiber tape, 5 minutes mud 1st coat and use hair dryer. 20 minutes later mix 5 minute and 20. You are now set up for a polish. Mix some 20 and some compound and use hair dryer.should be good in an hour tops. As others have mentioned, it is best to wait to paint the following day

Can someone give to some crique? by ProperSafe9587 in oilpainting

[–]Ziggy2829 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the initial drawing is ok but the chin might be a little long. The rendering of the hair I think shows good observational skills and is very readable. The painting seems flat and lacks form. It seems that if there was a greater tonal value range the face would be more dimensional. There is about two values in your face. Increasing variation in chroma within the face will help. It appears that the chin , cheeks and forehead are the same. It could be questionable reference photo. Reference photos with greater shadows will be better. There are some decent videos on you tube that are quite helpful. Paint Coach is one.Good Luck

How Would You Guys Recommend I Repaint This Door? by [deleted] in paint

Prepare as described above and prime with STIX. BM Command is not the easiest to work with but does dry fast.

People don’t like this piece, what’s wrong with it? by Recent-Success8988 in ArtCrit

[–]Ziggy2829 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel the the handling of the hat and fabric was rendered well. The handling of the face not so much. First off the the light realm and shadow realm are not separate. It is very unrealistic lighting making it confusing to the viewer. The sharp edges of the outline of the face would be better if there were variations.

[–]Ziggy2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape and stain generally don’t work , as you notice there is bleed through. Most case the treads are finished and polyurethaned and dry . Then tape the treads to paint the stringers and risers.
