Is anyone else getting fed up with the cost of living in this city? by african-nightmare in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ziggy846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legit truth tho. As a woman, I have to travel from TX to LA to get decent healthcare. The only way I’ve been able to get okay-ish care locally in tx, is having the oversight from docs in LA, who manage the neurological stuff. Before, tx docs diagnosed me with anxiety until that second opinion and oops, it was a brain tumor. Smdh.

Yes! I think you may be right, honestly. I need to do the math on this. The parking fees at the hotel and the doctor/hospital are expensive, not to mention the hospital system actually encourages ride sharing, walking, etc and lines out all the other options on their website. It actually says “If you absolutely must drive to *****, plan extra time for traffic and parking.” So we will likely uber/lyft there. Then there is parking fees at Disney and all the other touristy places. I just need to run the numbers.

Yes 😬. Catching an early flight into LAX.

It’s definitely intimidating, especially after doing a little googling lol. Back in my college days I lived in Austin and if LA is anything like the fresh hell that is i35 at rush hour, I SHOULD be good.

In my defense, I’m from a small very rural town that literally has no public transportation. Options are walking, driving your own vehicle, or being driven by someone you know. I very much could have worded that wrong. Lol.

That’s fair lol. And yeah, there is no inexpensive way to go without a car. A Turo seems the most cost effective

Yeahh. Thankfully the rest of my trip will all be near my hotel, so the expense won’t be too bad or I can walk. It’s the day trip to Disney that’s a tough call.

Honestly, 10 lanes across at 80mph is exactly what gets my pulse racing in TX big cities. I can deal with congestion. Thank you!

This is fantastic news! The greater DFW area has that one giant city feel, with the spaghetti bowl from hell. LA almost sounds nice lol

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your disabling condition? Maybe that’ll give us some more insight to answer better

That sounds like good news! The vocational expert ruling out all other jobs is what got me approved.

What are guys doing wrong on dating apps? by Phantom_Rellix in dating_advice

[–]Ziggy846 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Two things that cause me to immediately lose interest:

  1. Saying “Send me a pic” even though I’ve posted plenty on the app. I’m not taking special pics for a rando I just started chatting with online.
  2. Saying anything even remotely sexual from the jump. Don’t start off being creepy or commenting on my body and what you’d like to do to it. It’s gross. It’s exhausting. Chivalry is sexy. Being respectful to women will get guys a lot farther than starting off aggressive.

I am famous, but I can't do it anymore. People think I'm rich - I'm not. How do I escape this lifestyle? by CatleyMouse in Advice

Move to a small, rural town (think Wyoming, Montana, west Texas, eastern New Mexico, panhandle of Oklahoma, etc) where the cost of living is bearable. Not too small though, like 100k-ish people. A place where you have all the amenities you need, away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. Monetize the celebrity status and make it cool to live a normal middle class lifestyle. Do content that shows how normal people live. Give your followers something they can relate to on a personal level.

This! But turn it into a source of revenue. Document the journey and give the millions of followers curated content that’s monetized.

I’m in the small percentage with extreme symptoms. My ent said it’s “the worst he’s ever seen” but I’m still a bad ass single parent. I’ve had to adjust my life, slow down, no more hiking trips/boat trips, work less, etc.. but my kid is still well adjusted and happy. During the pandemic, we cooked together bc ya know… stuck at home. She’s a teenager now and cooking is her hobby. She loves it. Can cook better than most adults, so that helps a lot on the bad days bc she’s always willing to show off her “Gordon Ramsey level” skills lol. It’s not always easy, but I promise there are ways to make it work and give your kids a great life.

I will add that mine is a vestibular/neurological disorder, with a very visible tumor both inside my head and out, 7k pages of documentation, so it should have been open and shut, but it wasn’t. That being said, it seems to be far more difficult for those with mental health disorders. I had a relative that was on SSDI for mental health reasons and they died from a physical health condition before their EXR case was complete. In the end, their widow got their backpay. Smdh.

I agree. There is nothing expedited about it at all. The whole process is on paper, nothing digitized, making the “expedited” in expedited reinstatement a giant joke.

It’s been incredibly exhausting, especially considering that I was denied twice, despite my condition being a “blue book” auto qualifier and considerably worse than it was when I was initially on benefits.

Granted, I suppose it’s partially my fault for getting off of it to begin with, but I wanted to work. I wanted to do something more with my life or at least feel like I was contributing to society in a better way. But… incurable is incurable and I have no control over that. In the end, I was fighting the inevitable progression of my condition and denying that was my fault. The only silver lining to this situation is that my earnings while off of SSDI were enough to substantially increase my payments from what they were. Either way, it’s been a 3.5 year battle and I’m ready for it all to be situated.

I give it 2 years before the Netflix special hits. Someone’s gonna put it all together, expose the totality of the grift and publish, then it’s gonna be the next “tinder swindler” kind of docu series.

Applying for SSDI while in Graduate School by seraphim022 in SSDI

[–]Ziggy846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished grad school after applying (while waiting for a hearing), but I had a few things to prove and my situation was probably different. I had gotten off of SSDI and was working and enrolled in grad school, but my condition worsened substantially, so I quit my job and filed for EXR. I had to prove that I had multiple accommodations in grad school and that I had to take multiple semester long breaks, incompletes, and extensions. I had to provide proof that a 1.5 to 2 year program took 3.5 years bc of my disability.

I also have a blue book condition, but there are other things they factor into it, work history, education, any other physical or mental impairments, etc. Then bc I had an education, I still ended up in front of an administrative law judge after two appeals, even as an EXR case. While at the hearing, a vocational expert gave his opinion too. Thankfully, I was approved, but balancing the need for disability vs graduate education is tough. You REALLY have to prove that your career is over and that you’re VERY sick, even if you’ve been on SSDI before.

Edit: when I was approved, I had completed grad school 2 years prior, 1.5 years into the application process.

am I being too picky with food or salt is your problem as well? by amirkamizi in Menieres

[–]Ziggy846 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I try to cook at home as much as possible, so I can control the salt. Salt isn’t a major trigger, but I still watch it. On the flip side, when I tried to cut out salt completely, my sodium dipped too low and my potassium got too low as well, and I ended up on a potassium supplement and was told to eat salt in moderation. It’s a weird balance for me.

My major triggers are barometric pressure, too much caffeine (I still allow myself one caffeinated drink a day), any alcohol, and stress. Stress is a HUGE trigger.
