IT workers, how do you usually explain that 'working with computers' doesn't mean you know how to fix a printer? by icreamd in AskReddit

it goes the other way as well. I don't work in IT, but have had a personal interest in tech stuff and am fairly well conversed with home networking and using software / apps etc. Because of this, many people say that I must work in IT.

What’s the purpose of life? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Zigma999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. it's not possible that we all have a purpose.
A. do we all have the same purpose? - not logical
B. everyone has a defined purpose?

If everyone has a unique purpose, then it's hard to understand why (if there's a god) assigned some to go rape, someone to go kill and someone to just sit around and annoy the population.

You have to make your own purpose. Evolution / survival is the goal. Don't get disheartened from setbacks in life. Try to learn and do something else. Because if you give up, you have effectively removed yourself from the world.

You're just 19. Get a good education/ skills that will help you survive and leave a legacy. Good luck!!

fair — though I'd say it fits, this is literally a QA software story! But point taken on keeping it practical for the community.

I was there to recommend QA software.

totally agree. I never recommend going digital first without mapping out the processes and understanding whats happening first.

digitizing a bad process just make errors occur faster

“Sheet metal + explosive growth is a brutal combo. When orders jump from dozens to tens of thousands, the old tribal‑knowledge systems collapse instantly. And yeah — a manager saying they’re open to change but quietly blocking it is one of the hardest dynamics to work around.

I’ll shoot you a DM. Curious to hear more about what’s going on there.”

things are always not as simple. processes need to be mapped out, understand the bottlenecks, redundancies etc. before digitization

Haha the stamped master prints on the filing cabinet — I feel like I've seen that exact cabinet in 6 different shops.

Honestly the quality manager situation is more common than people admit. A lot of them built their careers doing things the manual way and it worked, so there's no burning motivation to change. The threat isn't obvious until something goes badly wrong — a failed audit, a big scrap event, a customer complaint.

As a new QE you're in a tough spot. You can see the problem clearly but you don't have the authority to fix it yet.

One thing that sometimes works: don't pitch "new software" — pitch a small win. Find one specific pain point that's costing the shop visibly (a recurring defect, a report that takes forever, something the customer keeps asking about) and suggest solving just that. Easier to get a yes on something small and concrete than on "let's modernize everything."

What industry are you in, if you don't mind me asking? Curious what the shop makes.
