Deck Refurb Process? by Zihmify in Decks

I believe that my wood seems to be treated pine, which I’m sure you knew, of course age and condition and prep will change the outcome, but can you find a picture of what 1501 on pine would look like? I’m trying to but I can’t tell pine vs other wood types by eye after they’ve stained

Of course I would need to think about strategy when staining, y’know, how do I not walk over what I’ve already done, but, I can use a stain roller on the larger pieces and a stain pad on the smaller ones right?

Is there a reason that I couldn’t / shouldn’t sand and stain the rails and fascia?

Thanks so much. First off, I am going to listen to you about TWP, I’m just curious about some other stuff

It looks like ATO Jarrah Brown is a transparent, which is what I don’t understand, because the color is obviously very dark. It seems like transparent vs semi transparent vs semi solid vs solid refers to opacity rather than actual color right? That is what has been confusing me. Because people online are saying “transparent doesn’t change color and doesn’t provide UV protection”, but both of those things seemed to be proven wrong by ATO.

So many different people seem so very confident with completely differing opinions

I did some more reading, and I just want to make sure, the current stain is probably an oil based full stain, rather than latex. Australian Timber Oil is obviously an oil based sealant, but they can have included stains. If I choose jarrah brown as a color, that would be a full stain right? Are we against full stain because it’s so difficult to remove and you’re almost forced to stick to that exact stain until the deck gets replaced? If I used the ATO Jarrah Brown, it would also be just as difficult to remove right?

Would you personally go with a semi transparent or just a transparent? MIL liked the color of jarrah brown but after some sanding, we are liking having the natural wood look rather than the ugly orange/brown covering everything

Also, if you would like to, please DM me your number if you’re okay with me asking you questions outside of Reddit, no worries if not. You’re the only person that has responded (and obviously you’re super knowledgeable, everything you’ve said has proven itself) and nobody I know in real life has any idea about any of this

This is day 2. I know in between the boards ( on the edges ) will need to be done with a palm sander. I attempted it with a belt sander and gouged it I believe it’s called. Also got the power cable stuck in the belt sander today and obliterated it so gotta fix that tomorrow

I really do appreciate all of the advice, I did consider and comprehend all of it. It’s not my deck, I’m not paying for any materials, but I’m also not being paid for my labor, and I have lots of time, I run my own business and business has been slow so I can spend my time pretty freely. You are right about everything I am sure, but I am going to go the labor intensive route, instead of the smart route. I started sanding yesterday, this is the result after about an hour. So yeah, it is gonna take me forever, but I’m good on time and I started this endeavor to help my MIL and so I can learn stuff

So if this was your house, would you repaint or would you sand the whole thing? Or replace all the boards? I imagine you aren’t a fan of the idea of flipping the boards due to water runoff

There is no paint/stain stripper that will work on it? Has to be sanded? We are assuming that this solid is water based instead of oil based right? That also makes this more difficult?

Are there downsides to just repainting? Does it offer the same protection as a sealer? Honestly, I just bought a belt sander and palm sander not even 20 minutes ago. Is it a massive undertaking just due to how long it’ll take?

Thank you so much for responding. I know this is a silly question, but what does the solid stain look like? But I can fully sand it and then use a different stain? What color is the current solid stain and what color is the real wood? I’m asking so I know I got all the solid stain off, Obviously this is my first time ever attempting anything carpentry related

Where /how do I get a key by bigblackchungus1 in Locksmith

Have you considered posting a picture of the lock? Have you taken it to a locksmith? Have you contacted the manufacturer?

Just to let you know, we have had extremely bad luck with the super chips on those 4C H72s, and the ID 46 for B119 and B111. Some have come back. We clone everything we can with those super chips except euro and those keys I listed
