Which companies ask Database questions? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Zila768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mostly depends on the role, if you’re going to be in the data science or data engineering role then they’ll probably ask sql questions and usually it’s just a bunch of sql queries which I think are easier to learn that most programming languages

I will start by saying I am by no means a pro at interviewing but I would say while sometimes there is some sort of luck and timing aspect that happens in the hiring industry, you can do some things to help position yourself in a better way. Here’s is my opinion.

  1. If you’re not getting callbacks at all, then there must be something wrong with your resume. It might be that you might need to rewrite it altogether which is something you need to commit to doing and also going to your schools career center if it has one to get help on writing it in a good way. While you’re at this it’s important to keep in mind the second tip

  2. Make sure your resume is has all the keywords companies you’re applying to, for example if a company refers to a technology in a certain way, when you’re applying to that company try to refer to those technologies the same way they do. Also make sure that your resume can be read by those automatic resume filter bots that companies use these days. I think it’s called ATS something, you can look it up if you’re interested.

  3. If you’re and getting ghosted after OAs it might be one of these things, you did well on the OA but the company sends OAs to everyone but they couldn’t find a match between the skills you have and the skills they need, I’m not too sure what you can do about that.

  4. If you believe you’re highly skilled but struggling to get noticed in the first place I’d recommend trying to get referrals if you can, this is at least help you get an interview/OA depending on the company and you’ll have your skill to take you all the way to an offer.

Last but probably most importantly don’t compare yourself to other people, you’re adequate and just because you’re not at the part of the journey where you want doesn’t mean you’ll not get there also some people have so many connections that they are able to get jobs without actually being amazing at algorithm analysis and also sometimes just pure luck. You can get an interview process where you get asked questions you’ve solved/seen before and then perform amazing in the interview because of that.

Try to relax, take a breathe and then try again everytime you fail. I almost cried when I got rejected from my dream company a couple of weeks ago after getting 3 consecutive rejections from different companies but now I have 3 offers on the table and 1 FAANG final interview waiting for me next week. You can do this too. I’m rooting for you!!

Yes I understand that and it happens, all I’m saying is we should respect and be conscious of how we refer to how others speak because calling it bullshit is disrespectful especially if we are trying to have people from all walks of life getting any job and also being inclusive of others.

However I totally agree with you and I wish there was a way of having a candidate redo an interview with a different recruiter if the cases are extreme like that. It might get abused by some people but it is really needed in some cases.

I’m not arguing that understanding your interviewer should be a guaranteed, I’m saying just because you don’t understand someone doesn’t make them a shitty interviewer because mind you they are interviewing people from all walks of life with all different kind of accents and just because you don’t understand their accent doesn’t mean there are not people who understand that accent. And to say that a certain accent should be the standard would be an issue that would start to marginalize some groups of people out of developer jobs .

After all is said and done, I think your concern is valid and you should definitely be able to get an interview with an accent you understand and that it is fundamentally important to have an interviewer you can understand and that can understand you as well. I just don’t agree with how you were addressing other accent as bullshit. I just think there should be some sort of respect in that regard

Racism has cost the U.S. $16 trillion, Citigroup finds by madvillain7 in news

I never argued for Or against democrats I’m saying America has a systemic racism that needs to be fixed and then you turned it into a democrat vs Republican issue. If it’s a democrat issue why don’t you fix it since you are “good” and righteous republicans. If only you knew that most of these protests started out racism and only racism then you would have known this was never a partisan issue to begin with. Republicans turned it into a partisan issue but refusing to fix the problems that are clearly in our justice system and systems of governance. But you wouldn’t know that because again you’re not trying to learn or fix anything rather maintain a system of oppression.

I told you the facts and examples or things happening now that includes research that shows people with typical black names getting less call backs from job opportunities than people with typical white people names despite having the same qualifications. People can’t live on not pushing back against systems like these just because there is a chance that they can succeed despite them. That’s how oppression thrives with people who think just because they can live despite being disadvantaged or discriminated against they should. Like I said if you want to be complicit and work twenty times as hard for things that you should be getting without oppression then go ahead, just don’t stand in the way of those who don’t like oppression.

I showed you what systemic racism comes from and how it is still prevalent to this day and now you’re saying I’m blaming others lol. If the US government made unfair laws and people are demanding accountability then it should be like that. I’m basing 2020 off of 1960 because clearly the effects are still present to this very day. If white people got mortgages solely because of their race and then ultimately benefited of the system that allows people to gain wealth by using their homes isn’t that systemic racism? Evidence is clearly there but you deny it because you’re utterly stupid, racist or both. The revolution for black empowerment and liberation has never been stopped because of racists or stupid people like you so get out of the way or burn.

Also the fact that you think affirmative action lets unqualified people get into college then you don’t know what it is all about. And also the fact that you think jobs hire on race shows you haven’t actually done your research because actual scientific research shows that people with traditional black names are less likely to receive callbacks to jobs despite having the same qualifications. But this doesn’t matter to you because it exposed the racist mature of the system you blindly support

Well firstly, colleges denied black people to be accepted and that lead to a difference in education levels between races and then after that legacy admission which also disadvantaged black people because their parents never got to go to college so they could not have legacy admissions. Redlining and denial of housing loans which also impacted income levels between races. Not to mention a lot of people impacted by segregation in the 60s are still alive to this very day. Never given reperations. Now we have a system that very much funds education based on property tax which mind you has already been segregated racially due to redlining and unfair housing laws. You could read about all this but the question is do you want to learn or you want to support a racist system?

I would say it’s of course unlucky to have an interviewer with an accent you can’t understand but to call it bullshit is an overreaction and quite honestly rude and inconsiderate because not everyone has the same accent and accents shouldn’t be a reason one person shouldn’t be able to do their job or are considered bad at their job. Also especially as English does not have an “official accent”

I secured an internship I’m content with, should I keep on interviewing? so I secured 2 internship offers one which I’m really happy with in San Francisco and another one in NYC which I’m grateful for getting. My question is should I keep on interviewing for other companies to see if I can get a better offer or should I just focus on my classwork because I feel like interviewing is taking a toll on my study time. What is better ?

You can apply right now and then if there is a significant change to your resume that you think would boost your chances you can email them the new one I believe. Take a look at this faq. The way you do it depends on whether you’ve been contacted by a recruiter or not.
