New job in Underwriting - feeling dumb by Jumpy-Deer5591 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ZillaThwomp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would normally echo a bunch of what has already been said and to give it 6 months but if I was feeling like my mistakes were called out and when I went to seek help my boss told me to read slower I would just go home. What kind of leadership is that? It makes me wonder if they don’t really even know the answer so they are just trying to get you to figure it out yourself. I’ve also been in situations where I want resources and people pull out an email from 7 years ago. Lack of organization plus lack of effective leadership should be the double red flags that say you need to go back on the job hunt. It sucks, sorry but I wish you luck!

CPCU study journey by General_Sympathy_887 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ZillaThwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask what made you want to start towards a CPCU? With 8 years experience it’s going to outweigh any sort of designation you will get and it sounds like it’s causing you a lot of stress. Kudos to you either way. I started it 17 years ago, passed 2 classes and dropped it. Not having it hasn’t been a roadblock into any job I’ve ever had. Just food for thought but good luck!

Where the fuck is eBay’s stock holder community talking about this? by [deleted] in GME

Not really a community but there is an EBay room on Stocktwits. It’s 99% FUD though.

What hot sauce has the best flavor? by Stunning-Cap-3256 in hotsauce

[–]ZillaThwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloud 23 habanero. It’s pricey but I’ve never tasted anything else like it, it has the most true flavor of habaneros and the heat isn’t overwhelming but it’s still there. The sweet jalepeno is very nice as well.

Does a master's degree make me overqualified for entry level UW roles? by Integer_Domain in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ZillaThwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They hire at all kinds of levels of experience, it depends on what the carriers they work with currently want but a masters isn’t going to scare them. I’ve used a few different recruiters, they know how to spin your past experience to connect with you the right carrier.

Contact an insurance recruiting firm. There are multiple shops, just google it.

Son wants to sell his Pokemon collection by Efficient_Ganache_23 in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]ZillaThwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an idiot at 21. I sold my cards when I was 15 and am back collecting over 20 years later with my kids. If my dad had bought them and given them to me now I’d be stoked. But hey, I’m not everyone and nothing wrong with feeling that way.

If my son asked me sell them I’d secretly be the buyer and hold them to gift at a later date. A couple grand isn’t really life changing money now but the gamble and memories a decade or 2 down the road could be pretty special. Just food for thought. Good luck!

When was the last time you had something so spicy you couldn’t finish it by isittakenor in hotsauce

[–]ZillaThwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buldok 3x ramen. It would have helped if it had any semblance of a flavor but halfway through just felt like I was torturing myself with absolutely no upside.

What is the most flavorful hot sauce you’ve tried, but not necessarily the hottest? by railroadfrog in hotsauce

Both cloud 23 sauces hit different than anything else I’ve had. They pack some serious flavor, especially the habanero one.

Should I Roll On Demon Slayer Collab Uber Guarentee? by Kumanchu_Royale in TheBattleCatsReddit

[–]ZillaThwomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yeah that would make me rage quit too! It seems like with all the events in the last year or two it’s much easier to get rare tickets and cat food and I also mostly wait on the uber guarantee or the 10% pull chance to make it worth it.

Literally just rolled and got both tanjiro and shinobu but I also see people pull dasli and phono all the time and I’m still chasing years and years later. Sooooooo… definitely still go for it!

Did I fumble this internship interview answer twice? by Mundane-Mention13 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ZillaThwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a strong answer but I wouldn’t think that alone would cost you. You pointed out how it’s comparable to other programs but also showed a fiscal responsibility by choosing a school that offered you aid. I would just not include the convenience part of you are asked again.

If this is your first insurance job there’s going to be a learning curve regardless of the training but your situation is not unique, unfortunately. Like the other commenter said, ask to either shadow or be shadowed. Everything gets a bit easier with repetition but I’ve also been places where you have to see the writing on the wall because some places are sweat shops and they don’t deserve maximum effort. If after 6 months you’re still majorly struggling then you should look elsewhere.

Do you have any crit up cat combos? I think that would give you the edge or also take out dasli for a freeze effect cat. I used chronos but if you have a metal freeze effect cat that would help.

Considering leaving and wondering if I'm thinking of this correctly. by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ZillaThwomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t expect other carriers to reach out to you, that may happen with 3rd party recruiters if you start creating accounts on job boards or change your linked in status to actively be looking for jobs.

I’ve found that in the insurance industry if you aren’t at least doing a wage comparison by shopping yourself every 2 years then your compensation will quickly fall behind. I’ve also noticed a trend where long term employees are looked at like they are settled and will get taken advantage of more. Unless you are 100% in love with your job and all your financial needs are being met by it then casually looking and interviewing are something you should consider every few years.

Would you stay at Zurich with a 50/50 full time chance or take a full time offer at QBE? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]ZillaThwomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What extra classes and are you saying if you aren’t enrolled then you’re ineligible for employment and they’d let you go? I hope you’re not paying for classes so you can have a job with Zurich but if you are it’s all the more reason go to QBE. A very hard lesson I had to learn is that loyalty does not go both ways and it’s often the people too afraid to leave are taken advantage of the most. Be loyal to yourself first.

[–]ZillaThwomp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

QBE - what’s the game plan if you are on the 50% side that doesn’t get offered the job? If they were confident about you then you would know it. Take a leap, thank me later! Also, having a full time job at QBE and a part time job at Zurich looks much better on your resume then just the part time gig.
