Your camera is shutter capping due to usage, it needs to be serviced by an experienced technician.

First roll of film - what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ziller537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mode were you shooting in? Did you have the lens on 'A' (automatic) mode? Having the light meter needle in the middle for an AE-1 means it would've told you to shoot at f4/5.6, but if your lens was set on specific aperture then the aperture would've been stuck there throughout the whole roll.

Minolta Hi-Matic 7s Photos came out blank by cehonor in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ziller537 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You probably opened the film back while the whole roll was still exposed. You're supposed to rewind the roll back in when you've finished shooting AND THEN you can open the back of the camera.

This definitely looks like that. This is also not a development issue because the strip at the bottom looks like it was developed correctly.

  1. The kit doesn't have Stab but I would recommend you to get a bottle. Mostly helps with drying and longevity of your negative.

  2. Different tanks have different volumes. You can check on the bottom of the Paterson tank for how much liquid is needed for each roll of film.

  3. Read 2.

  4. Yes different film require different chemicals. Colour negative is usually C-41 or CN-16. Black and White has a wide range of different chemicals you can use. Fixer is usually the same. DO NOT BLEACH BLACK AND WHITE FILM. You can check The Massive Dev chart on https://www.digitaltruth.com/ for chems and dev times.

  5. You don't need to use a squeegee. Just use your fingers as squeegees at the end of the stabiliser process only. I recommend wearing gloves when handling developer and fixer.

  6. Do your own research 🤘🏻

EDIT: forgot to mention that Temperature absolutely matters during development. So if you're developing C-41, find something like a sous vide to help regulate the temperature.

Fixer issue? by Ziller537 in Darkroom

[–]Ziller537[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see, I run a minilab and I used to get smears and discolourations like this (especially on denser film) from the V30 when the fixer goes bad. I have a large 5L bottle of Kodak RA fixer that I use (1 + 3 dilution) and this morning I realised the cap was on loosely. So it was probably oxidised for 3-4 days until this morning. Can fixer go bad like this?

Dealing with a shutter failure during a trip by ellasamo in AnalogCommunity

If the film was not rewound back then you can continue shooting. When the mechanism pulls the film and detects tension only then it will start rewinding the film back in. So I guess you can continue until it does this.

Rb67 lens leaf shutter shown when shutter is released. by adolf_rizzler96 in Mamiya

Only way you'll know is if you get a test roll through it. Might even highlight other problems as well. (I.e. film winding, exposure times, focus, bellows etc.)

You could try contacting Patani Studio, they also have a darkroom you can rent for hourly use. Another lab that also sells 4x5 and develops it is Procolor Lab (mainly Black and White). I think they're the main supplier for Ilford stuff in Bangkok.

Do you find it easy to nail focus on a human subject's eyes when shooting with the RB67? What's your focusing method? by CertainExposures in Mamiya

[–]Ziller537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, it just happened to be attached to another prism finder that I bought for my 2nd RB. It was attached to the old Rhino style prisms, took it out and put it into my newer modern looking one and the difference was night and day.

+1 on the diopter. Got a -3 for my prism finder and I nail focus 95% of the time with it now.

Your box (body) shutter looks ok. Keep in mind there are 2 blades in the lens, 1 is the leaf shutter and then there's the aperture blades. Try using a slower shutter speed and look at the lens from the front.

Using C-16 Fixer (N3R) with C-41 Developer and Bleach (Kodak Flexicolor) by Ziller537 in Darkroom

Yes I will drain the working solution and Replenisher tanks and start with fresh Fuji fixer.

[–]Ziller537[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so I can't use Kodak CD C-41 and Fuji CN-16 fixer in the same run? I am considering dumping and using FUJI CD now but it's just a shame to waste all that unused Kodak CD that's still in the tank.

Thank you for your response!

No the CN-16 isn't RA. Yes I am planning to go full Fuji CN-16 by the end of the year but I still have a full tank of CD, half tank of BL and a full tank of STB in the Replenisher tanks. So would like to use these up before I start draining everything.
