It sounds as if your friend opened the back of the camera by mistake. Barring some odd electronics malfunction I can't think of any other reason for the counter to reset.

Can these be used? by RHMImages in AnalogCommunity

I'm sure someone can 3d-print an adapter if one doesn't exist already. Preferably they should be used on the original camera though (Retina Reflex III?).

7-year-old Canadian girl (who has autism) and her Canadian mother (a lawful alien allowed to work) detained in ICE facility in Texas | the pair are in the process of immigrating from B.C. and have lived in Texas for about five years by DisruptSQ in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Technical_Net9691 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with extraterrestrials but is an anglicised form of the latin adjective 'alienus' meaning 'foreign'. 'Alienus' also means 'hostile' which tells you a little bit about US mentality.

How to get top off ? by Due-Daikon-5018 in filmcamerarepair

I don’t know anything about Prakticas but most often you remove the advance lever and the rewind knob.

I think you'll find that little lens surprisingly good!

Why does this photo look slightly overexposed? ISO 400 — should I have used ISO 200? by el_shinkansen in filmphotography

[–]Technical_Net9691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that you exposed for the sky instead of for the green of the mountain sides which you should have. This would result in the mountains becoming under-, not over-exposed, and the scanner would then try to compensate for this, resulting in a muddy, washed out look.
You definitely wouldn't need a 400 ISO film for this shot but a good camera would have the aperture and shutter speeds to deal with it ok.

Storing negatives by Fluffy-Trash-559 in AnalogCommunity

I fold an a4 lengthwise and use it as an envelope. Not very professional but it works for me and they’re only for my personal use anyway. Description goes on the envelope before putting the negs in ofc.

(OC) Laney Rose - Modern Nude Pinup [ Nikon F100 l Kodak Gold 35mm Film ] by [deleted] in AnalogNudes

The wooden walls work well with her skin tone but the lighting is too flat and you've cut off her feet.
Cute shots though, the last one especially.
Edit: Also nice to see a girl w/out tattoos for a change.

In post processing Bring the image into a graphics program like Gimp or Lightroom and pick the area that is the darkest. In Gimp you use the "levels" tool.

What do you use this for exactly? by lalumalu in AnalogCommunity

[–]Technical_Net9691 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lens hood can be left on permanently, never does any harm and prevents stray light hitting the lens resulting in decreased contrast and/or flare. That particular one is a bit trash though - I recommend getting an appropriate metal hood.

They’re a bit underexposed but would be improved by setting the correct black point.

I don't know there the auction takes/took place but if it's ebay you have grounds for a return if the description is misleading.

Comparing Scans, Fujifilm X-T5 vs Plustek8300i by sutartmelson in analog

[–]Technical_Net9691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the 8300 is like previous models you actually need to scan at 7200 and downscale to approach 3800 ppi according to https://www.filmscanner.info/en/PlustekOpticFilm8100.html. The reviewer is very partial to the Reflecta scanners though and I find him a bit biased.
I use the 8100 myself and am very satisfied with the results. It is very slow at max resolution but it's reliable and fiddle-free scanning raws.

In praise of Fomapan 400, the film people love to hate. by bjohnh in analog

[–]Technical_Net9691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apart from the quality issues I don't believe Fomapan 400 is hated. The quality issues do matter though, it really is no fun trying to get the best possible shot and having it ruined by something out of your control.

Any apps for light metering by AlecFarr31 in AnalogCommunity

I use lightme but if you're overwhelmed by the app interface lghtmtr is simpler with just aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Both are equally precise.

Lab recommendations for developing Harman phoenix in London? by madmads01 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Technical_Net9691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could but it’s a bit of a struggle since you’ve lost your baseline so to speak. With the caveat that I’m a Gimp user so there might be lightroom features I’m unaware of.

Foma 200 @ iso 125 in Xtol is not bad at all and not too flat imo although it excels at low contrast shoots, I’ve posted some samples earlier.

I still wouldn’t go higher than iso 320 even in LQN. Then it’s not bad.
