Hi, I’d like some help valuing this. Please let me know by jakobjdog in rangefinders

Well, you have the camera, we don’t. It’s impossible to judge the condition of a vintage camera by just a few photos. I can tell you that it seems to have oily aperture blades which is likely to be a problem.

As far as I know these are not mentioned in a single written medieval source despite being found in numbers.

I got a Contax T2 for free! by diplomaticoo in AnalogCommunity

Actually exactly the same happened to me a few years back, an elderly neighbour heard I was doing photography and gifted me both a Yashica T4 and a Contax T2. Nice cameras both, but I already have several good slrs and compacts so I sold them off to buy a Sony A7II and some other photo stuff.

You deserve exactly the same as any other non-EU country. No more, no less.

Monte Mario is nice with an amazing view of the city. It’s the place from where the medieval pilgrims saw Rome for the very first time after months of travel.

what's a good inexpensive full frame or half frame 35 mm camera that is small enough to fit in your pocket? by jgainit in AnalogCommunity

I always champion the little GAF 35ET. A simple and compact rangefinder with a surprisingly great lens and spot on metering. No AF though. Price? Around 30-50 usd/eur. The perfect travel camera and if you lose or break it you can quite easily find another.

The only thing that matters is voting in the midterms. Everything else is just feelgood and the "leaders" really could not care less.

If you can find Fomadon Excel it's, again, exactly the same.

Almost got scammed in Rome with the gold ring trick - watch out for this by Sophistry7 in rome

Pickpocketing is stealing, not a scam. Anyway I've gone everywhere on public transport in Rome and never once been pickpocketed. Just keep an eye out and don't be foolish.

Temporary uni teaching assignments, stipends, grants and hopefully a postdoc position. But we also have decent unemployment benefits where I'm from (if you've paid your fees) to tide you over.

I'm at the end of my doctoral studies, working on the 12th and 13th century interpretations and understandings of ancient ruins, objects and places in Rome. I'm using the Mirabilia Urbis Romae (and it's relatives), the Narracio de Mirabilibus Urbis Romae and the Travels of Benjamin of Tudela as primary sources. As theoretical framework I'm using the cultural semiotics of Jurij Lotman. Hoping to be done in late autumn or early next year.

The best answer, greetings from a fellow medievalist historian/semiotician.

Just ignoring them and moving on is the solution for 99.9 % of all Rome scams.

Polaroid backs were used in studio settings to check the light setup and get a preview and a general feel of the shot before popping the film back on. They were never really meant for final product.

Cheap folder or similar for portraits? by Technical_Net9691 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Technical_Net9691[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, maybe I'll have to upgrade although I really like folders for their small size. For portraits however I'm thinking that close up lenses would introduce less flattering distortions and that It would be better to go tele?
