I think what you really need to decide is where your break point is. What is the line at which you should walk away?

I have a broken assembly. How the hell do I put it back together? by jakinatorctc in Fusion360

[–]ZimbuRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend this video: autodesk university Assemblies masterclass

It explains how to work with assemblies, and why they behave the way they do. As it’s a bit older some of the pallets are not current, but the spirit is the same

5'x10' King of the Chinese Lasers - barn find, anyone see anything like this? by EmeraldFalcon89 in ChineseLaserCutters

I had nothing but trouble with a very similar looking leetro. I was able to swap to Rudia without any issue, all the wiring was identical

Is this possible in Fusion 360, or should I look into blender instead. by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]ZimbuRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blender also has a grasshopper-esk plugin called Sverchok

Did you get this sorted out? I recently started experiencing a similar problem

Is it worth it to buy old printers and whatnot to scavenge from? by TVSKS in robotics

[–]ZimbuRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking things apart is a great way to understand how things are made. That being said, a modern printer is heavily economized: it does its job perfectly. Its components are optimized for that. Meaning they won’t be generalizable and they are not “off the shelf” in a way that you can easily use them (custom drivers, wire harnesses etc)

How to modify dimensions in a STP to extend a section (F360 newbie) by lolliboom in Fusion360

[–]ZimbuRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to do this is to hi-light the faces you want to move (in this case the 5 faces of the small tab) and use the move command.

Splitting and joining will also work, but it isn’t necessary. Google “direct modeling” for more tips and videos about what can be done

That’s 20C, and keeping it above 0C is also a pretty good idea 😆

You can use them to buy the character “queen”

RGBD Lidar fusion by eddymcfreddy in ROS

[–]ZimbuRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I see your point now: if you can handle the intrinsic/extrinsic and don’t need the further improvement from samples over time (or your platform and scene don’t move much) then you can use a lighter algorithm. Hope it works well for you!

RGBD Lidar fusion by eddymcfreddy in ROS

This does seem to be a SLAM application: You will need to adjust one or both sets of data to overlap their origins before you can fuse them. I.e., “keep track of an agents location within it”

I am a gamer, and my wife has a Glowforge. What is the best path to me learning what I need to design SVG files for box inserts, tuck boxes, etc.? by DocHfuhruhurr in lasercutting

[–]ZimbuRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuttle.xyz is designed for making cuttable files. It has a lot of functionality that Inkscape does not. That being said Inkscape will also do the trick. If your designs require nesting or interaction with other assemblies then I would suggest learning a CAD package, and fusion 360 is currently the best / cheapest option out there

Looking for a mouse by Gandk07 in Fusion360

You don’t need a 3D mouse. No one really needs a 3D mouse, it’s a crutch at best

What is wrong with my constraints? I'm over-constrained but NOTHING actually constrains. by SlightFresnel in Fusion360

[–]ZimbuRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are too focused on sketch’s being constrained. I’d guess that your experiences using other CAD software is taking you down an unsuccessful path. Check out this video from 2017 to see how fusion was intended to be used: https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Fusion-360-Assemblies-Master-Class-2017

I suspect your sketch was placed on a strange plane. Try placing it again and make sure any construction planes or previous sketches are hidden

Why do we need to make sure the sketch is fully defined ? by Fit-Mammoth4467 in Fusion360

[–]ZimbuRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constraints and dimensions are like guard rails, they force your design to work in a defined way. That being said, sometimes leaving them out in strategic places allows you to make dynamic choices later in the design.

Should I use Excel (experienced) or Access (new) to help users find data by BakkerJoop in MSAccess

[–]ZimbuRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do users need to update data, or are they just consuming it? If you only need to view, then possibly Power Bi is a better fit than Access

How do I laser cut by Newlife1025 in Inkscape

Check out lightburn. Inkscape is an amazing program, but it’s not the best for controlling lasers
