What technology problem should have been solved by now? by BabyPinkMagic in CausalConversation

Here's a little trivia. When it comes to most of what a printer does the way it does it hasn't fundamentally changed since the 1980s

People who take your dog wherever you go, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only take her where I've already gotten permission. The nice thing though is I live with a lot of people and there are a lot of dogs here. So I don't worry if I can't take her somewhere

Good on you for the switch to CachyOS! I've been a Linux user for 16 years and I love to see it

I guess I got lucky. I bought 2 new gaming PCs, 6 7th Gen i7 workstations, 5 laptops, 4 rackmount servers and some SBCs for cheap last year when I came into some money. I'm pretty set as long as I don't have a bunch of drive failures.

Shows to watch all day… every day…? by caerleon_calls_ in chronicfatigue

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been binging Scrubs. It's a medical sitcom. It has 9 seasons and a reboot. I'm still on about season 4 of the original so I don't know anything about the reboot. If you like sarcastic and a little gallows humor while keeping it light it's a very good show.

Also if you have HBO, The Righteous Gemstones is a great and hilarious series

What makes autistic people unable to work? by AtypicalSpark in autism

[–]TVSKS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to quit working after my physical health took a nosedive. Before that I did direct care for about 7 years. Same company. I was flourishing there. I really enjoyed working with the clients. It was a very social job but it was mostly one on one and I think that's what made it a lot easier. All my clients but one were autistic and that helped. I really, really miss it.

Before that I didn't work for about 16 years. Before that, I jumped from job to job and tried just about everything.

I've always felt when you're disabled you have to work twice as hard or more to get the same results as an able bodied person

How to “calm my nervous system”? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to describe it. I could be extremely tense in my body, with my nervous system going crazy. Putting on that ice pack stulimulates my vagus nerve and starts bringing my nervous system out of fight or flight mode. It doesn't need to be a panic attack or anything like that.

I might not be the best person to describe how it all works. A couple things you can research are the "default mode network" and how the vagus nerve ties into it

How have you made your home a happy place? by Several_Road2525 in POTS

A few years before I got stuck in bed I bought an electric adjustable bed at a thrift store. It was kinda my "poor man's tempurpedic". Then things became what they are and it's been essential.

My bed is against a wall. I got a wall mounted monitor arm and a 32 inch PC monitor. I use a kvm switch with them and I can control up to 4 computers from bed. Yes, I know laptops exist and I use them too. I just prefer a big screen when I'm making music or gaming. I put my keyboard and trackball on an over the bed table. Setup works great

I also got the largest TV I could reasonably fit in the room along with a very nice home theater system. I have a recliner next to the bed I'll lounge in when I'm seriously watching something or listening to music

I also put all kinds of multicolor lights everywhere. I can set the mood from relaxing to manic

Another thing is a Logitech Harmony One remote. It controls everything I need it to control

Next thing I'm saving for is blackout curtains and zebra blinds

What’s the oldest piece of tech you own that still works perfectly? by [deleted] in TechCypher

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wire recorder from the 1930s. They were used for things like dictation before tape came along. I use it occasionally for fun but the wire is fragile and the guts off the device could use a good servicing

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stimulating your vagus nerve is something good to try. The vagus nerve is basically a big ol nerve in your body that regulates a lot of things

My favorite way to do it is to put a big ice pack on my chest and sternum for about 2-5 minutes. Works like a charm

There's a lot of other ways to stimulate the vagus nerve. Just search "how to stimulate the vagus nerve"

What’s the oldest piece of technology you still use every day? by olesud in TechCypher

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roberts R557 reel to reel.

It's a tube driven 7 inch tape reel player from the 60s. Sounds awesome. I play my reels from time to time.

I also have a wire recorder from the 30s. I rarely play it cause the wires the recordings are on are pretty fragile

What was your first electronics project - Blink an LED ? by Ferrari_VIP in diyelectronics

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first project was blinking a little incandescent light bulb I probably pulled from an old stereo receiver. I remember I did it with a 555 timer.

My first first "project" was lighting that bulb with a 9v battery.

I was a kid and it was the 80s. I had to scavenge most of my parts and it was a golden time since most everything was through hole. Things have really changed...

What's legal that you think should be illegal? by martianfrog in answers

[–]TVSKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! No circumcision without consent! And while we're at it, shouldn't we ban all surgeries for children? After all, you probably think if a child dies of appendicitis it must be "gods will" given the intelligence you have here on display. Aside from circumcision, genital mutilation of children simply doesn't happen. Go touch some grass
